The Corporate Strategic Services Branch provides strategic leadership, direction and coordination of a broad range of planning, policy and administrative services for the Department to support the ministry’s environmental mandate. The Policy Alignment and Legislative Services team within the Branch is responsible for supporting the Departments Cabinet and Legislation work.

Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Administrative Services, the Senior Accommodation Planner provides specialized accommodation planning, analysis, advice and coordination to support EPA program delivery in government-owned and leased facilities. Working in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment, the position supports coordinated corporate service delivery and continuity of ministry operations.

The role develops accommodation options and recommendations that align with ministry priorities, operational needs, Government of Alberta standards, and Alberta Infrastructure policies and guidelines.

Working closely with internal clients, Alberta Infrastructure, vendors, and service providers, the position coordinates complex accommodation initiatives and develops practical, sustainable, and cost-effective workplace solutions that support employee well‑being and operational effectiveness.

As a ministry contact for accommodation planning, the Senior Accommodation Planner consults with stakeholders, coordinates accommodation requests, interprets applicable policies and standards, conducts cost analysis, develops recommendations, and initiates approved accommodation projects.

The role provides accommodation‑planning and advisory services and coordinates with facilities, furniture, workplace technology, parking and other service areas where those functions affect an accommodation request or project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and coordinate accommodation projects and workplace solutions in accordance with Government Accommodation Standards, Alberta Infrastructure policies and guidelines, and ministry requirements.
  • Consult with internal clients, Alberta Infrastructure, vendors, and other stakeholders to assess accommodation needs, develop recommendations, and coordinate solutions to complex accommodation issues.
  • Conduct space utilization reviews, workplace assessments, feasibility assessments, cost analyses, and budget planning activities to support effective stewardship of government-owned and leased space.
  • Coordinate ministry requirements for accommodation projects, including project documentation, stakeholder engagement, briefings, correspondence, and implementation coordination within approved scope, timing, and budget requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirement: University graduation in a related field such as Urban planning, facilities management, interior design, construction management, business admin, plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Assets include:

  • Diploma, Certificate, or formal training in Project Management is an asset.
  • Experience in accommodation planning, space utilization, or workplace design.
  • Experience leading complex projects and coordinating multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience conducting budget analysis, project costing, and resource planning.
  • Knowledge of Government Accommodation Standards, Infrastructure policies and guidelines, or related workplace accommodation frameworks.
  • Experience using AutoCAD or similar computer-aided design (CAD) software for space planning, workplace design, or accommodation projects is an asset.

This position is a permanent, full-time role, with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday.

To support operational needs in Southern Alberta, Calgary may also be considered based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience.

Travel within the area and throughout the province will be required as part of your responsibilities to coordinate with Ministry staff and colleagues, other government departments, clients, and other external stakeholders.
