Allied Universal is seeking experienced Security Guards to provide security services at a community shelter in Mississauga, ON. This full-time role supports vulnerable populations and requires prior shelter experience.

The position offers day shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, a pay rate of $19.00 per hour, and opportunities for growth within Allied Universal. You will monitor access, de-escalate incidents, conduct patrols, and coordinate with staff to maintain a safe environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1–2 years of security experience in a shelter, supportive housing, or similar environment.
• Proven experience working with vulnerable populations

Responsibilities

• Access Control & Monitoring: Control and monitor access to the facility; verify identification and logs.
• De-escalation & Conflict Management: Respond to incidents; use verbal de-escalation techniques.
• Safety & Security Patrols: Conduct routine interior and exterior patrols; report hazards.
• Emergency Response: Respond to medical, fire, security, or behavioral emergencies.
• Incident Documentation: Complete detailed incident reports and communicate with staff or emergency services.
• Collaboration with Shelter Staff: Work with staff to support daily operations and high-risk situations.

Schedule: Continental rotation (includes occasional weekends due to shift rotations)

Position Overview:

Allied Universal® is seeking experienced Security Guards to provide security services at a communityshelter environment. This role requires individuals who have prior experience working in shelters or similar high-interaction environments, supporting vulnerable populations.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong de-escalation skills, the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced setting, and professionalism when managing challenging behaviors. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, respectful, and controlled environmentfor residents, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

• Access Control & Monitoring
  • Control and monitor access to the facility
  • Verify identification, manage entry logs, and ensure only authorized individuals enter the shelter
• De-escalation & Conflict Management
  • Respond to behavioral incidents involving shelter residents or visitors
  • Utilize verbal de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed approaches
  • Maintain calm, professional conduct in high-stress or emotionally charged situations
• Safety & Security Patrols
  • Conduct routine patrols of the interior and exterior of the facility
  • Identify and report safety hazards, suspicious behavior, or policy violations
  • Secure doors, exits, and restricted areas
• Emergency Response
  • Respond to medical, fire, security, or behavioral emergencies
  • Assist staff during evacuations or critical incidents
  • Follow site-specific emergency and incident response protocols
• Incident Documentation
  • Complete detailed and accurate incident reports
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, shelter staff, and emergency services when required
• Collaboration with Shelter Staff
  • Work closely with shelter staff to support daily operations
  • Provide security support during resident interactions, intakes, and high-risk situations

Required Skills & Experience:

• Minimum 1–2 years of security experience in a shelter, supportive housing, or similar environment

Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid Ontario Security Guard License
• First Aid & CPR Certification
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent work experience)
• Legally eligible to work in Canada (up to 40 hours per week)
• Ability to workweekends, and rotating schedules
