Job summary

Volker Stevin Highways LTD. is seeking a Seasonal Highway Maintenance Worker/Operator in Calgary for the winter season (October through April). You will join a safety‑driven team reporting to the Foreman and contribute to highway safety and maintenance.

The role requires a valid Class 3 or 1 driver’s license with air brake endorsement, plus experience with snowplow operations and general equipment maintenance. On-call night shifts may be required.

Qualifications

• Valid Class 3 or 1 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement and a clean driving record.
• Experience operating and performing minor maintenance on light to heavy equipment is an asset.
• 50+ hours of snowplow operation preferred.
• Ability to work on-call and during night shifts when required.

Responsibilities

• Actively contribute to safety culture and maintain a safe, productive work environment.
• Set up proper signage, traffic control measures, and emergency response for weather events and hazards.
• Maintain facilities, equipment, and documentation including logs and safety records.
• Transport hazardous materials and manage traffic in high-volume work zones and emergencies.
• Inspect and service company equipment, vehicles, and facilities.
• Comply with labour laws, policies, safety regs, and QA/QC standards.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions and operate additional heavy equipment as needed.

Reporting to the Foreman, the Seasonal Highway Maintenance Worker Operator plays a key role in maintaining highways, ensuring the functionality and safety of roadways. The successful individual will be required for the winter season from October through April.

How You’ll Add Value

• Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
• Ensure proper signage, traffic control measures, and emergency response for weather events, accidents, and wildlife hazards
• Maintain well-stocked maintenance facilities and complete necessary documentation, including logs, reports, and safety records
• Safely transport hazardous materials and manage traffic in high-volume work zones and emergency situations
• Maintain, service, and inspect company equipment, vehicles, and facilities, ensuring proper care and security
• Follow labour laws, company policies, safety regulations, and environmental compliance, while applying QA/QC standards for highway maintenance, road safety, and hazard assessments
• Perform in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt
• Operate additional heavy equipment as required to support project needs

What You Bring

• Valid Class 3 or 1 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
• Experience in operating and performing minor maintenance on light, medium, and heavy equipment is considered an asset
• 50+ hours of experience of snowplow operation is preferred
• Be able to work on call and perform on night shifts when needed

Note: Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing and Fit for Work Testing will be required.
