Job summary

Volker Stevin seeks a Seasonal Highway Maintenance Worker/Operator in Calgary, AB for the winter season (October–April). Reporting to the foreman, you will support highway safety through signage, traffic control, and emergency response while maintaining facilities and equipment. Pre-employment testing will be required.

This role emphasizes safety, reliability, and readiness for diverse weather conditions. Responsibilities include operating heavy equipment, keeping logs, and ensuring compliance

Qualifications

• Valid Class 3 or 1 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement and a clean abstract showing limited demerits and no major infractions.
• Experience operating and performing minor maintenance on light, medium, and heavy equipment is an asset.
• 50+ hours of snowplow operation is preferred.
• Be able to work on call and perform night shifts when needed.

Responsibilities

• Promote a strong safety culture and maintain a safe, productive work environment.
• Ensure proper signage, traffic control measures, and emergency response for weather events, accidents, and wildlife hazards.
• Maintain well-stocked maintenance facilities and complete logs, reports, and safety records.
• Safely transport hazardous materials and manage traffic in high‑volume work zones and emergencies.
• Inspect and service company equipment, vehicles, and facilities, ensuring proper care and security.
• Follow labour laws, company policies, safety regulations, and environmental and QA/QC standards.
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions and operate additional heavy equipment as required.

Reporting to the Foreman, the Seasonal Highway Maintenance Worker Operator plays a key role in maintaining highways, ensuring the functionality and safety of roadways. The successful individual will be required for the winter season from October through April.

How You’ll Add Value

• Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
• Ensure proper signage, traffic control measures, and emergency response for weather events, accidents, and wildlife hazards
• Maintain well-stocked maintenance facilities and complete necessary documentation, including logs, reports, and safety records
• Safely transport hazardous materials and manage traffic in high-volume work zones and emergency situations
• Maintain, service, and inspect company equipment, vehicles, and facilities, ensuring proper care and security
• Follow labour laws, company policies, safety regulations, and environmental compliance, while applying QA/QC standards for highway maintenance, road safety, and hazard assessments
• Perform in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt
• Operate additional heavy equipment as required to support project needs

What You Bring

• Valid Class 3 or 1 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
• Experience in operating and performing minor maintenance on light, medium, and heavy equipment is considered an asset
• 50+ hours of experience of snowplow operation is preferred
• Be able to work on call and perform on night shifts when needed

Note: Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing and Fit for Work Testing will be required.
