Job summary

Volker Stevin Highways Alberta is seeking a Call-In Highway Maintenance Worker/Operator for the Nordegg winter season. This on‑call role is ideal for a reliable, hands‑on worker seeking extra income or seasonal experience in highway maintenance.

You’ll safely operate snowplow trucks, respond to call-ins with ~12 hours' notice, and support traffic control, safety, and documentation across winter routes. Training is provided for equipment and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Valid Class 3 or 1 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement and clean abstract.
• Experience operating and minor maintenance on light to heavy equipment is an asset.
• Snowplow or heavy equipment experience is an asset; training provided.
• On‑call availability and ability to work night shifts when needed.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate snowplow trucks to clear snow and ice from assigned routes.
• Respond to call-ins with approximately 12+ hours' notice.
• Promote a safe and productive work environment and safety culture.
• Ensure proper signage, traffic control, and emergency response for weather events.
• Maintain maintenance facilities and complete logs, reports, and safety records.
• Safely transport hazardous materials and manage traffic in high-volume zones.
• Inspect and service company equipment, vehicles, and facilities.
• Follow labour laws, safety regulations and QA/QC standards for highway maintenance.
• Perform in outdoor settings including inclement weather; operate additional heavy equipment as needed.

How You’ll Add Value

• S afely operate snowplow trucks to clear snow and ice from assigned routes
• Respond to call‑ins with approximately 12+ hours' notice
• Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
• Ensure proper signage, traffic control measures, and emergency response for weather events, accidents, and wildlife hazards
• Maintain well‑stocked maintenance facilities and complete necessary documentation, including logs, reports, and safety records
• Safely transport hazardous materials and manage traffic in high‑volume work zones and emergency situations
• Maintain, service, and inspect company equipment, vehicles, and facilities, ensuring proper care and security
• Follow labour laws, company policies, safety regulations, and environmental compliance, while applying QA/QC standards for highway maintenance, road safety, and hazard assessments
• Perform in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt
• Operate additional heavy equipment as required to support project needs

What You Bring

• Valid Class 3 or 1 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
• Experience in operating and performing minor maintenance on light, medium, and heavy equipment is considered an asset
• Prior snowplow or heavy equipment experience is an asset, but not required — training provided
• Be able to work on call and perform on night shifts when needed

Note: Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing will be required.
