John Ross & Sons Ltd. is seeking a reliable Heavy Equipment Operator to join our busy metal recycling yard in Halifax. You will operate excavators and loaders, perform inspections, and help process scrap materials safely and efficiently.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years of experience with heavy equipment in industrial settings, a strong safety mindset, and the ability to work with a team in varying weather conditions. Full-time, with competitive pay and benefits.

Qualifications

• 2+ years experience operating heavy equipment in scrap, recycling, construction, or industrial settings.
• Proven ability to safely operate excavators and loaders.
• Heavy equipment operator training or a recognized ticket is an asset.
• Strong safety mindset and commitment to safe work practices.
• Ability to work with supervisors, coworkers, and truck drivers.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate excavators and loaders.
• Handle, move, sort, and process scrap metal and recyclable materials.
• Conduct daily pre-operational inspections and report deficiencies.
• Clean and lubricate equipment, and refill as required.
• Safely install, remove, and secure equipment attachments.
• Maintain awareness of hazards in the yard.
• Follow all safety policies and site requirements.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Assist with other yard and labour duties as required.
• Perform other duties as necessary.
