Job summary

ABC Recycling Ltd., established in 1912, is one of Western Canada's largest locally owned metal recyclers. We are seeking a Shear Operator to operate a mobile shear-attached machine and related attachments at our Fort St.

John, BC site, performing sorting and processing of scrap metal with a focus on safety and efficiency. The role offers year-round full-time employment with potential overtime and site-based project work, aiming for a long-term career in a leading recycling operation.

Qualifications

• 2+ years experience operating excavators, material handlers and other heavy equipment.
• Experience using bucket and thumb attachments.
• Experience with scrap metal recycling or demolition is a plus.
• Mechanical aptitude with strong hand-eye coordination.
• Safety conscious and able to travel occasionally.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Sorts and processes materials to customer specs using bucket, thumb and Labounty shear.
• Loads and unloads materials from bins, trailers, and rail cars.
• Assesses situational risks and mitigates safety and environmental concerns.
• Performs minor maintenance such as lubrication, blade alignment and tensioning.
• Participates in the development and design of processes.
• Assists in the analysis of process improvements and development of solutions.
• Gains awareness of and contributes to implementing industry best practices.
• Self-manages when operating off site.
