For more information, visit www.bccancer.bc.ca.

The BC Cancer Research Institute (BCCRI) is seeking a Research Scientist at the Assistant Professor level, to develop an independent research program in the general areas of biological mass spectrometry and proteomics for biomarker and target identification, or protein function analysis in cancer. Potential areas of interest include drug and gene mechanism of action, protein function, protein interactions, post-translational modification, surfaceomics, spatial analysis, biofluid analysis, metabolomics, targeted quantification of metabolites, drugs, and proteins, or other relevant applications of biological mass spectrometry to cancer research. The position at the BCCRI will be a Research Scientist position, and the successful candidate is expected to have a competitive profile that will enable a partnered Assistant Professor appointment at an affiliated university such as the University of British Columbia or Simon Fraser University.

The candidate will have a PhD in biochemistry, chemistry, structural biology, or relevant field with specific and documented expertise and postdoctoral training in biological mass spectrometry methods for proteomics. In addition to a strong record of research productivity in the field, the applicant is expected to have a clear vision for an independent research program, interest in collaborative research projects, and aptitude and enthusiasm for the supervision and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students, and the teaching requirements of the partner university. The candidate will interact with a well‑established, staffed, and fully operational proteomics platform. The successful candidate will also present a clear approach to foster equity, diversity, and inclusion principles in their research program, laboratory environment, and teaching.

The candidate will also need to show demonstrated ability to achieve excellence in teaching and will be expected to participate in the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate teaching activities at the partner university in their field of expertise.
