Science Communication and Engagement Specialist

Role Overview

You will develop and implement stakeholder engagement activities, manage social media and multimedia content, and produce accessible knowledge products to communicate biodiversity science insights effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and execute engagement plans tailored to different audiences.
  • Organize workshops, surveys, meetings, and feedback sessions.
  • Support internal communication initiatives like newsletters and forums.
  • Create outreach content such as webinars, blogs, and presentations.
  • Manage ABMI’s social media and website content, including visual assets.
  • Analyze and report on engagement and social media metrics.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, natural resource management, communications, or related field.
  • At least one year of experience in science communication or stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Willingness to travel within Alberta occasionally and adhere to safety protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with environmental or biodiversity organizations.
  • Knowledge of stakeholder management and engagement activities.
  • Experience with webinars, workshops, and event coordination.
  • Proficiency in design tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) and content management systems (WordPress, Magnolia).
  • Social media proficiency (Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram) and scheduling tools (Hootsuite).
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
