Job summary

Diocese of Harrisburg seeks an Elementary Technology Teacher to design and deliver technology and information systems learning experiences, guiding students in a supportive climate. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education and/or teaching certificate, or technical degree with an education background, or related field.
  • As IT/technology teacher, teach Technology/Computer-related courses to students according to school and diocesan curricula.
  • Coordinate/Assist School Principal, School Technology Coordinator, and/or Information Technology Director on Technology Education for students and curriculum integration.
  • Demonstrate effective use of technology in the classroom and media center.

  • Assist in building the IT knowledge base and ensure instructions are adequate and accurate.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development as needed and approved.
  • Teach Technology/Computer-related courses to students according to school and diocesan curricula.
  • Model effective use of technology in the classroom and media center for teachers and students.
  • Oversee Web 2.0 technologies, such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and other social media, if the organization does not have an Information Technology Coordinator or Director.
  • Provide School and community-wide resources and groups on cyber-Christian living, internet safety, and technology utilization by students and parents if the organization does not have an Information Technology Coordinator or Director.
  • Coordinate/Assist School Principal, School Technology Coordinator, and/or Information Technology Director on Technology Education for students and curriculum integration.
  • Attend IT Department meetings as needed.
  • Attend Faculty meetings as needed.
  • Attend the Information Technology advisory board meetings as needed.
  • Assist in the development of the IT budget.

NATURE OF POSITION:

Responsible for providing learning experiences in the field of technology or information systems classroom and supervision of students in a supportive and positive climate that develops in each student the skills, attitudes, and knowledge of school standards and expectations. Achieving academic excellence may require that the Technology Teacher work collaboratively with other members of the school faculty, staff and with parents.

REPORTING FUNCTION:

Reports to the Principal.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Duties may include any of the following:
IT Support, Education and Training

POSITION ANALYSIS:

This position requires a mature, detail-oriented individual with above-average keyboard skills, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, the ability to understand and follow instructions, as well as work independently. The person should possess an overall knowledge of school operations. Position requires knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning. This position also requires the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data management, information literacy, visual and audio presentations, communication, and troubleshooting skills. Cordial and effective communication with priests, parents, students, and faculty, vendors, committee members, officers of church councils, and Diocesan office personnel is an ongoing necessity. This person should be a self-starter, capable of independent problem-solving and decision-making within the scope of authority provided.

EDUATIONAL/WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in Education and/or teaching certificate, or technical degree with an education background, or related field.
