Job summary

National Association of School seeks a School Psychologist to provide assessment, programming, and therapeutic intervention in Manitoba First Nations schools as part of an interdisciplinary team. The role includes service delivery within a three-tiered model to improve access to academics and participation in school.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s degree in psychology, is certified or registrered with Manitoba psychology bodies, and brings cross-cultural experience and strong communication

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in psychology or related field.
  • Certification/registration with provincial psychology board.
  • Familiarity with Manitoba curriculum and inclusive education docs.
  • Experience with First Nations in education is an asset.
  • Respect for Manitoba First Nations education development and socio-economic conditions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural skills for First Nations environments.
  • First Nations language fluency is an asset.
  • Familiarity with federal and provincial legislation.
  • Ability to relate to children, parents, and professionals.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License and reliable vehicle.
  • Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector and Child Abuse Registry checks.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The School Psychologist functions as a member of an interdisciplinary school-based teamofprofessionalsandisresponsibleforprovidingspecializedschoolpsychology services to First Nations schools in Manitoba. This will include assessment, programming, and therapeutic intervention, and consultative services within the three-tiered service delivery model to enhance access to academics and participation in school.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • A minimum of Master of Arts/Sciences/Education in School, Child, or Clinical Psychology;
  • Permanent or Provisional Certification as a Certified School Clinician in School Psychology and/or registration with the Psychological Association of Manitoba
  • Familiarity with the Manitoba curriculum frameworks and strategies for implementation, and other support documents relating to Inclusive Education;
  • Experience working with First Nations in the field of education is considered an asset;
  • Appreciation and respect for Manitoba First Nations education development and reforms as well as the socio-economic conditions of First Nations communities;
  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural skills to work in a First Nations environment;
  • Fluency in a First Nations language is considered an asset;
  • Familiarity with federal and provincial legislation;
  • Ability to relate to and communicate with children, parents/caregivers, and other professionals;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in technical and plain language writing;
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team of professionals;
  • Computer proficiency;
  • Possess a valid Class 5 Driver's License and a reliable vehicle; and
  • Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector and Child Abuse Registry checks.
