Job summary

SECURE is seeking a Scale Attendant-General Labourer at Kimberley, BC. You will manage scale-area traffic, assist in grading scrap metals, and support yard operations while upholding safety standards.

This full-time role requires reliable, team-oriented individuals who can work in a fast-paced industrial setting. You will be the first point of contact for day-to-day activities, coordinating with yard staff and serving customers.

Qualifications

• Experience working with metals would be an asset but we are willing to train.
• Ability to follow SECURE’s Workplace Health and Safety requirements and hazard assessment process.

Responsibilities

• Direct all incoming and outgoing traffic through the scale area in a safe and efficient manner.
• Maintain radio communication with yard personnel to coordinate vehicle movements and monitor traffic flow for safety.
• Perform basic computer tasks and learn internal systems and software.
• Interact professionally with customers, vendors and the public with strong communication.
• Work in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment and handle multiple tasks.
• Assist with determining and identifying material grades as required.
• Sort and organize materials in the yard during downtime.
• Perform sweeping, housekeeping, and yard cleanup duties.
• Keep driveways and scale areas free of debris and obstructions.
• Report safety concerns, equipment issues, or irregularities to management.

Your Opportunity at SECURE

As a Scale Attendant-General Labourer, you are responsible for performing a broad range of functions in support of the efficient and effective operation of a metals recycling facility. You will be the first point of contact for the business’s day to day activities including the purchasing of scrap metal from public customers and industrial account holders.

This role is based out of Kimberley BC.

Work Environment

This is a full time permanent position working an 8am to 5pm shift, Monday to Friday.

A Day in The Life

• Direct all incoming and outgoing traffic through the scale area in a safe and efficient manner.
• Maintain radio communication with yard personnel to coordinate vehicle movements, monitoring traffic flow to ensure compliance with site safety procedures.
• Basic computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn internal systems and software.
• Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and courteously with customers, vendors, and the public.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment while managing multiple tasks and priorities with the ability to remain on your feet for extended periods
• Assist with determining and identifying material grades as required.
• Sort and organize materials within the yard during slower periods or downtime.
• Perform sweeping, housekeeping, and general yard cleanup duties.
• Keep driveways, scale approaches, and surrounding work areas free of debris and obstructions.
• Report any safety concerns, equipment issues, or operational irregularities to management.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

• Experience working with metals would be an asset but we are willing to train
• Basic comprehension and ability to follow SECURE’s Workplace Health and Safety requirements relevant to the assigned work site, including but not limited to SECURE’s safety and hazard assessment process”
• Ability to complete safety documentation in an accurate and timely manner
• Strong communication and radio etiquette skills.
• Ability to work safely in a fast-paced industrial environment.
• Knowledge of scrap metal grading is an asset.
• Ability to perform physical labor in various weather conditions.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
