Job Description

Job Title: SAP Transformation Release Manager – North America Downstream Oil & Gas
Location: Calgary AB or Remote - Prefer that resource will be in Calgary. If the resource is remote, will require travel to Calgary occasionally (4-6 times a year) to work with the team.

About the Role:
Beginning in 2023, our client has been engaged in a business process transformation initiative, optimizing their finance back-office business processes and migrating from several legacy ERPs to SAP S/4 HANA.
They are looking for an experienced SAP S/4 HANA Release Manager to drive the successful implementation and deployment of SAP solutions within their North America downstream oil and gas operations. This role is crucial to ensuring seamless software releases that enhance fuel distribution, supply chain logistics, and retail operations while maintaining compliance with industry regulations. You will collaborate with remote, cross-functional teams to oversee release planning, risk mitigation, and change management within a highly dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:
•Develop and execute release management strategies for North American SAP Transformation Program ensuring minimal disruption to distribution, retail, and logistics operations.
•Work closely with IT, business units, and vendors to coordinate releases within complex downstream environments.
•Define and enforce release schedules which include cross-functional milestones (data, testing, user readiness, integrated 3rd party systems, infrastructure, security, and others).
•Monitor and mitigate risks associated with release schedules. Provide leadership reporting and escalation as required.
•Coordinate testing efforts with business users to validate SAP changes against critical distribution and retail workflows.
•Lead incident resolution and rollback planning to ensure continuous operations in fuel transportation and retail sectors.
•Facilitate regular communication and alignment with business leaders, IT teams, and implementation partners.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
•5+ years of experience in release management within SAP transformation projects, preferably in downstream oil & gas, and focused on SAP S/4 HANA.
•Minimum 8–10 years of experience in SAP project management, including at least one full-cycle greenfield SAP implementation.
•Strong understanding of SAP modules relevant to oil and gas, including SAP IS-Oil, SAP S/4HANA, MM, PM, SD, and TSW (Trader’s and Scheduler’s Workbench).
•Expertise in Agile methodologies, DevOps practices, and ITIL frameworks.
•Proven ability to manage SAP releases while working with remote teams focused on transportation, supply chain, and logistics.
•Strong stakeholder management skills, working effectively with business leaders, engineers, and IT teams.
