Hiring Requirements:

Job safety is the first responsibility of every individual that is part of an operating team. Compliance with safety rules, operating procedures, and sound practices is the expectation for all personnel working in the bakery.

Product safety, legality and quality are essential responsibilities, expected of every associate. Product safety is freeing the product of any contaminants like chemicals, allergens, or foreign materials such as glass, wood or metal. Legality compliance is meeting regulatory requirements (Canada & US if intended for export) in terms of weight and declaration of ingredients. Product quality is meeting customers specifications and expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain safe and clean work environment by educating and directing associates on the use of equipment and resources while maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Proactive in the elimination of workplace accidents and injuries.
  • Maintain quality and legislative requirements by adhering to and enforcing Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), British Retail Consortium (BRC).
  • Responsible and accountable for tracking daily visual and swab audits making the appropriate individuals aware of any deficiencies with regular feedback.
  • Plan, direct, engage and understand daily and non-daily sanitation operations while anticipating and troubleshooting sanitation problems.
  • Complete sanitation plan by scheduling and assigning associates, establishing priorities, revising schedules, and resolving problems.
  • Oversee the dismantling, cleaning, reassembly and sanitizing of equipment and utensils in this plant environment.
  • Plan, conduct, and document monthly departmental Health & Safety, Quality Assurance, and Sanitation issues/changes.
  • Identify and drive objective and measurable cost-saving initiatives.
  • Drive leadership coaching and development with hourly associates.
  • Responsible for ensuring all associates are aware of operating/safety procedures.
  • Maintain the safety of the department to ensure the team works in a safety culture environment.
  • Use analytical skills to define, justify and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Other duties as described by your manager.

Experience & Education:

  • Post-secondary diploma and/or degree.
  • Two years of supervisory work experience working in a unionized facility.
  • Experience with HACCP requirements, sanitation procedures, cleaning systems, chemicals, and health & safety.
  • British Retail Consortium (BRC) experience would be an asset.
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Effective communication skills to lead, motivate, coach, mentor and resolve employee conflict.
  • Able to manage and build a team independently.
  • Well-established organizational skills to manage multiple tasks.
  • Self-starter with good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Continuous learner and willingness to embrace change.
  • Required to work on all shifts and weekends.
