Job summary

Grain Millers Canada in Yorkton, SK is hiring for an Outside Sanitation role on a 5-month term, Monday–Friday, 8h days. You will maintain a sanitary production facility, clean railcars, and support food safety and regulatory compliance.

The job involves operating powered equipment, working outdoors in cold weather, and collaborating with sanitation, bulk load-out, production, and maintenance teams. Prior rail-related certs are a plus.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience operating powered mobile equipment is preferred.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in extreme cold and snow.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, safe, sanitary facility per the Master Sanitation Schedule.
  • Perform equipment and structural cleaning to support food safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Clean railcars safely and meet company and customer standards.
  • Inspect tracks, switches, and crossings to prevent delays and ensure safe operations.
  • Remove snow, ice, and debris from tracks, yard, and crossings as needed.
  • Operate rail equipment and assist with switching operations and railcar movements.
  • Handle powered equipment (tractors, forklifts, etc.) and perform deep cleaning of production equipment.
  • Report sanitation, maintenance, and pest concerns promptly.

As Outside Sanitation you will be responsible for maintaining the mill premises in a sanitary condition. You will also be responsible for cleaning rail cars safely and efficiently while adhering to company and customer requirements. This position is a 5-month term running approximately from November - March

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary facility by completing tasks outlined in the Master Sanitation Schedule.
  • Perform equipment and structural cleaning to support food safety, HACCP, and regulatory compliance.
  • Clean railcars safely and efficiently while meeting company and customer standards.
  • Perform regular inspections on tracks, switch and crossings to ensure smooth operations and avoid operational delays
  • Responsible for timely removal of snow, ice and debris on tracks, yard, switches and crossings
  • Avoid snow and ice accumulation in switches and tracks which could create delays and safety risks
  • Inspect, apply, document, and verify vessel seals.
  • Operate rail equipment, including assisting with switching operations, coupling and uncoupling railcars, and moving railcars using specialized equipment.
  • Operate a variety of powered equipment including tractors, skid steers, forklifts, aerial lifts, loaders, sweepers, snow removal equipment, and other mobile equipment.
  • Perform deep cleaning of production equipment.
  • Properly maintain sanitation tools and equipment.
  • Report sanitation, maintenance, and pest control concerns promptly.
  • Complete required documentation and work orders accurately.
  • Work collaboratively with the Sanitation, Bulk Load-Out, Production, and Maintenance teams.
  • Follow all company policies related to safety, food safety, GMPs, environmental standards, and ethical conduct.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience operating powered mobile equipment.
  • Ability to obtain required certifications and licenses related to rail operations and equipment.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety.
  • Must be comfortable working in an environment with exposure to weather extremes, including extreme cold and heavy snow.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and accurately complete documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of food safety, GMPs, sanitation practices, or pest control is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to repeatedly climb ladders and stairs and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in a grain processing environment with exposure to dust, gluten, allergens, and varying temperatures.
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights and weekends, when required.
Hours of work

This position will be working 8hr/DAY Monday – Friday schedule.
