Raise is currently hiring a Safety Specialist on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our client is a Canadian global leader in exploration, mine engineering, and environmental protection.

Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. We will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.

Description

The Safety Specialist in this role will ensure that our construction activities adhere to the highest standards of safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ). They will work closely with the Construction Management Team (CMT) and contractors, proactively identifying potential hazards, monitoring the implementation of safe work procedures, and fostering a strong safety culture on site. This role demands a proactive individual with excellent communication, problem-solving, and influencing skills, coupled with a thorough understanding of safety regulations and best practices.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with construction management team (CMT) and contractors
  • Ensure all safety, health, and environmental procedures and work instructions are followed
  • Conduct workplace inspections with CMT, focusing on behavioral observations
  • Review field level risk assessments (FLRAs) and daily contact cards for quality adherence
  • Conduct and monitor SHEQ-related training for construction management team (CMT) personnel and contractors; assess qualifications of contractor personnel
  • Participate in job hazard assessments, safety meetings, toolbox talks, constructability reviews, and project kick-off meetings as requested
  • Conduct daily and weekly job site inspections as per procedure
  • Identify and review health and safety concerns specific to the work site
  • Investigate injuries, accidents, and near misses as per site corrective action processes
  • Ensure timely notification of significant events
  • Monitor the quality of incident investigations and ensure effective corrective actions are implemented promptly
Qualifications
  • Intermediate Level (4-9 years): Minimum of 4-9 years of progressive experience in a safety-related role within construction, industrial, or mining environments.
  • Senior Level (10+ years): Minimum of 10+ years of comprehensive experience in a safety-related role within construction, industrial, or mining environments, with increasing leadership responsibilities.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable safety regulations and legislation at federal, provincial, and local levels.
  • Strong hazard identification, risk assessment, and control methodologies understanding.
  • Experience with incident investigation techniques and root cause analysis.
  • Proficiency in conducting workplace inspections and behavioral observations.
  • Experience reviewing and providing feedback on risk assessments and safe work procedures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, or a related field preferred; relevant experience may be considered.
  • Preferred certifications: CRSP, NCSO, CSO, Fall Protection, Confined Space, First Aid/CPR, incident investigation training, behavioral safety programs.
Additional Information
  • Travel to Saskatoon for chartered flights to camp sites is expected.
  • Pre-access substance testing is required due to the safety-sensitive nature of the role.
