Job description

Peter Lucas Project Management is seeking a Safety Specialist to join our dynamic team. As a leading project management company, we offer a diverse range of projects, professional challenges, and incredible learning opportunities to support your targeted professional growth.

The Safety Specialist schedule is working two weeks in, two weeks out, 11 hour days. The duties and responsibilities for this role are:

Responsibilities
  1. Ensure all construction activities comply with site-specific Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) standards by monitoring daily operations and identifying hazards.
  2. Collaborate closely with the Construction Management Team (CMT) and contractors.
  3. Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental procedures and work instructions.
  4. Conduct regular workplace inspections, emphasizing behavioral safety observations.
  5. Review Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRAs) and daily contact cards for accuracy and quality.
  6. Provide or monitor SHEQ-related training for CMT personnel and contractors; assess contractor qualifications.
  7. Participate in job hazard assessments, safety meetings, toolbox talks, constructability reviews, and project kick-off meetings as needed.
  8. Perform daily and weekly job site inspections following established procedures.
  9. Identify and address health and safety issues specific to the worksite.
  10. Lead investigations of injuries, accidents, and near-miss events, ensuring proper corrective actions.
  11. Ensure timely reporting of significant safety-related events.
  12. Monitor the quality of incident investigations and verify that corrective actions are effective and promptly implemented.
Minimum Requirements
  • 10 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Must have CSO designation.
  • Valid First Aid certification is an asset.
  • Formal investigation training and experience leading investigations.
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada (e.g., permanent resident, valid work permit).
