We are looking for a Safety Officer to to join our team.
JOB SUMMARY
The Safety Officer is responsible for overseeing and enforce health and safety standards for all divisions of the company. The Safety Officer will also play a key role in ensuring that our field teams comply with all applicable regulations and follow best practices, especially while working at heights, using chemical products, and handling specialized equipment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety Administration
- Revised Health and Safety policies and procedures on a regular basis.
- Keep daily log of activities, maintain all safety records, incident logs, training certifications, and inspection checklists in accordance with legal and company standards.
- Monitor accident / incident frequencies and safety violations for regular review with Allstar division presidents.
- Keep Safe Contractor questionnaire and documentation updated for all the company divisions` clients.
- Stay current with relevant safety regulations and recommend changes to policies and procedures as needed to Operations Managers and owners of the companies.
- Administer third party contractor compliance agencies (Contractor check, Comply works, Avetta etc.).
- Organize and administer municipal and parking / access permits for each project.
- Oversee the daily use of the Salus safety management tool, ensuring all safety documentation, inspections, incident reports, and compliance records are up-to-date and accurately maintained.
WorkSafe BC
- Chair joint health and safety committee meetings and drive actions to be completed.
- Manage first aid program and ensure supplies are available at all sites.
- Conduct toolbox meetings, health and safety meetings and bring safety awareness to all staff on all projects and worksites.
Site Safety Plan and Jobsite visits
- Preplan safety assessment prior to work starting.
- Plan and design safety plans for new projects under the direction of designated Site Supervisor.
- Oversee daily risk assessments, hazard analysis and mitigate risk and hazard.
- Visit all the jobsites on a regular basis; serve as the main contact for safety-related matters during jobsite visits, audits, and inspections.
- Keep spare equipment, first aid kits and gears that are under demand in the company truck and drive them to the job sites, when needed.
Training and Compliance
- Deliver safety training and toolbox talks to employees on topics such as ladder safety, PPE, chemical handling, WHMIS, and emergency procedures.
- Keep track of employee training and certification renewals.
- Coordinate and support fall protection and rescue planning for high-rise and elevated work environments.
- Conduct and or ensure field level safety meetings, toolbox talks, and health and safety information awareness is being provided to all sites.
- Strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels, to ensure the safety program is communicated to all employees to create a positive, supportive and safe work environment.
- Serve as the main contact for safety-related matters during jobsite visits, audits, and inspections.
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and inspection of safety equipment including harnesses, anchors, ladders, scaffolding, and lifts.
- With Joint Health and Safety Committee :
- Ensure completion of regular site inspection reports from field management; follow up on note resolution to any deficiencies or actions taken on the report.
- Regularly monitor safety compliance of workers and subcontractors; conduct site inspections and audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety laws (e.g., fall protection, scaffold and lift use, confined spaces) and institute remedial action, if required.
Incident Investigation, Reporting and Follow-up
- Work with onsite supervisors to investigates workplace accidents, near misses, unsafe practices or illnesses.
- Prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions.
- Follow up with the supervisor of their onsite safety plans after an incident.
- Analyzes incident trends and injuries to identify focus areas to minimize injuries.
- Report incidents causing injury with completed Form F7 to WorkSafe.
- Follow up with claims, communicate with WCB and employees on a time manner.
COMPENSATION AND SKILLS
Education and Work Experience :
- Accredited Occupational Health and Safety certificate / diploma or Canadian Registered Safety Professional credential.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a safety role, ideally within construction, maintenance, or exterior building services.
- Working knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation, Workers' Compensation, and recognized industry standards.
- Working-at-Heights and Fall Protection Certification.
- WHMIS and First Aid / CPR certification.
- Membership - NCSO - would be an asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
- Strong knowledge of local, provincial, federal health and safety regulations, WorkSafe BC Health & Safety Acts, and industry standards as they apply to the construction industry.
- Excellent communication and training skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and investigative abilities.
- Comfortable with site visits and fieldwork across multiple locations.
- Effective interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to handle confidential information with tact and discretion.
- Demonstrated organizational skills to effectively prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team.
- Intermediate skills using a variety of computerized software packages such as Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook), related databases and Internet. would be an asset.
- Ability to travel throughout the province.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.

Pay : $70,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
