Safety and Operational Support Assistant

We are currently recruiting for a SAFETY AND OPERATIONAL SUPPORT ASSISTANTfor our facility in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Quality & EHS Manager or Operations Management, as required, and working as a team member with the Environmental, Health & Safety and Operations groups, perform the following tasks:

  • Perform general decontamination work as required.
  • Provide janitorial services in both radioactive and non-radioactive areas as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Decontamination and EHS

  • Performs general and specific decontamination work as directed to include decontamination of equipment, facilities, surfaces, tools, and packaging.
  • Makes routine contamination checks in the radioactive and non-radioactive areas as required.
  • Performs routine monitoring of clothing, shoes, and equipment.
  • Maintains accurate records of results of routine monitoring checks in logbook.
  • Issues dosimeters as required and maintains proper records when required.

Operations Support

  • Washing glassware.
  • Supervision of general contractors.
  • Inventory Management (Order inventory, stock, and maintain supplies) in designated areas.
  • Disinfecting, supply restocking and decontamination of designated controlled rooms.
  • Labelling of product components (Process Kit Preparation).
  • Liquid Nitrogen Dewar filling and compressed gas handling.

General

  • Removes radioactive waste from process facilities and packages it for disposal.
  • Handles corrosive, flammable, and toxic chemicals.
  • Provides assistance to Environmental, Health & Safety and Operations groups in radiation decontamination duties, contamination monitoring, contamination control and waste disposal trailer loading.
  • Performs janitorial duties, e.g. floors, washrooms and laundry of coats, coverall, and shoe covers.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Quality & EHS Manager, or Operations Management as applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have Grade 12 or equivalent and at least one year experience in building maintenance and hazardous material handling.
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow technical procedures.
  • Must be able to perform work to established Standard Operating Procedures and process control records.
  • Must have good record keeping abilities, GDP and GMP knowledge.
  • Must be familiar with aspects of clean room and equipment disinfecting.
  • Must become familiar with Environmental, Health & Safety procedures.
  • Job requires some heavy lifting and may require use of lifting devices.
  • Must have the temperament necessary for radioactive area work and realise the consequences of working with potentially radioactive or contaminated material.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Extended sitting or standing may be required while performing duties.
  • May be required to work overtime.
  • May be involved in emergency situations involving radiation and/or contamination.
  • Required to dress in appropriate PPE (ex. Tyvek Suites) and wear respirator if required.
  • Classed as a Nuclear Energy Worker, training provided to be certified as an NEW.
  • May be called in at all off-hours to respond to unusual incidents.
  • Must keep own work area neat and clean. Subject to safety rules and regulations as required.

The base salary range for this position in British Columbia (CA-BC)at the start of employment is expected to be between $62,032 and $76,014 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives anoffer of employment.
