Job summary

Kelowna Ready Mix is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead our safety program across the Okanagan. This full-time role works with management and staff to promote safe practices, ensure regulatory compliance, and continually improve safety initiatives.

You will conduct inspections, manage WorkSafeBC relations, plan monthly safety meetings, coordinate training, and maintain PPE inventories while fostering a proactive safety culture.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of occupational health and safety experience in industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and practices.
  • Level 2 Occupational First Aid required; Level 3 preferred.
  • Current WHMIS, Confined Space, and Fall Protection certifications.
  • CRSP, CSP, or NCSO designation is an asset.
  • Valid BC driver’s licence with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the company's occupational health and safety program.
  • Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations, company policies, and environmental code of practice.
  • Develop, implement, and improve safety policies, procedures, SOPs, and safe work practices.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, identify hazards, and implement corrective actions to reduce risk.
  • Investigate workplace incidents and accidents, complete reporting, and recommend preventive measures.
  • Coordinate employee safety training, orientations, and required certifications.
  • Plan and lead monthly safety meetings across company locations.
  • Attend jobsite orientations and off-site safety meetings as required.
  • Maintain inventories of PPE, first aid supplies, and other safety equipment.
  • Administer environmental compliance programs and liaise with regulatory agencies as required.
  • Foster a positive, proactive safety culture throughout the organization.

What You'll Do

  • Plan and lead monthly safety meetings across company locations.
  • Attend jobsite orientations and off-site safety meetings as required.
  • Maintain inventories of personal protective equipment (PPE), first aid supplies, and other safety equipment.
  • Administer environmental compliance programs and liaise with regulatory agencies as required.
  • Foster a positive, proactive safety culture throughout the organization.
What We're Looking For
  • Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field (Occupational Therapy, Kinesiology, Environmental Health, or similar).
  • Minimum 5 years of occupational health and safety experience, preferably in construction, ready-mix concrete, manufacturing, transportation, or another industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC legislation and occupational health and safety best practices.
  • Level 2 Occupational First Aid required; Level 3 preferred.
  • Current WHMIS, Confined Space, and Fall Protection certifications.
  • CRSP, CSP, or NCSO designation considered an asset.
  • Valid BC driver's licence with a clean driving abstract.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and influence safe work practices at all levels of the organization.
Physical Requirements

This position includes both office and field work. Candidates must be comfortable working in active industrial and construction environments.

The successful candidate must be able to:

  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Walk on uneven terrain and climb ladders or stairs when required.
  • Work at heights and around heavy equipment and commercial vehicles.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
