Job summary

Kelowna Ready Mix Inc. is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead our occupational health and safety program and promote a strong safety culture across all operations in the Okanagan.

You will ensure WorkSafeBC compliance, develop and improve safety policies and procedures, coordinate training, conduct inspections, and manage incident investigations to reduce risk. This role requires 5+ years in industrial safety, relevant certifications, and the ability to influence practices at all

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of occupational health and safety experience in industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC legislation and safety practices.
  • Level 2 First Aid; Level 3 preferred.
  • Current WHMIS, Confined Space, and Fall Protection certifications.
  • BC driver's licence with a clean abstract.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and presentation skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to influence safe work practices at all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Attend jobsite orientations and off-site safety meetings.
  • Maintain PPE inventories and safety equipment.
  • Administer environmental compliance programs.
  • Foster a positive safety culture.

We're looking for an experienced Safety Manager who is passionate about creating and maintaining a strong safety culture.

What You'll Do

As our Safety Manager, you will work closely with management and employees to promote safe work practices, ensure regulatory compliance, and continually improve our safety programs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead and oversee the company's occupational health and safety program.
  • Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations, company policies, environmental code of practice.
  • Develop, implement, and improve safety policies, procedures, standard operating procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, identify hazards, and implement corrective actions to reduce risk.
  • Investigate workplace incidents and accidents, complete reporting, and recommend preventative measures.
  • Manage WorkSafeBC claims, reporting, and return-to-work programs.
  • Coordinate employee safety training, orientations, and required certifications.
  • Plan and lead monthly safety meetings across company locations.
  • Attend jobsite orientations and off-site safety meetings as required.
  • Maintain inventories of personal protective equipment (PPE), first aid supplies, and other safety equipment.
  • Administer environmental compliance programs and liaise with regulatory agencies as required.
  • Foster a positive, proactive safety culture throughout the organization.

What We're Looking For

  • Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field (Occupational Therapy, Kinesiology, Environmental Health, or similar).
  • Minimum 5 years of occupational health and safety experience, preferably in construction, ready-mix concrete, manufacturing, transportation, or another industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC legislation and occupational health and safety best practices.
  • Level 2 Occupational First Aid required; Level 3 preferred.
  • Current WHMIS, Confined Space, and Fall Protection certifications.
  • CRSP, CSP, or NCSO designation considered an asset.
  • Valid BC driver's licence with a clean driving abstract.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and influence safe work practices at all levels of the organization.

Physical Requirements

This position includes both office and field work. Candidates must be comfortable working in active industrial and construction environments.

The successful candidate must be able to:

  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Walk on uneven terrain and climb ladders or stairs when required.
  • Work at heights and around heavy equipment and commercial vehicles.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
