Job summary

Canterbury Coffee is seeking a Safety Manager for an 18-month contract in Burnaby. This role involves full ownership of Occupational Health & Safety across manufacturing and distribution sites. Job description

18‑Month Contract

We are seeking a hands‑on and experienced Safety Manager to take full ownership of Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) across our manufacturing, distribution, and branch operations. This high‑impact role involves designing and executing safety systems, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving a proactive safety culture across all sites.

What You’ll Do
  1. Safety Program Ownership & Execution: Accountable for end‑to‑end development, implementation, training, and sustained adoption of all occupational health and safety programs, policies, and procedures across all sites; ensure consistent application of standards through regular inspections, audits, and safety walkthroughs; identify hazards and lead corrective and preventative actions to drive continuous improvement.
  2. Incident Management & Compliance: Lead workplace incident and near‑miss investigations, including root‑cause analysis; ensure timely documentation and escalation of all incidents; maintain audit‑ready records and support regulatory inspections and audits.
  3. First Aid Program Management: Own and manage the organization’s first aid program across all locations; ensure appropriate coverage, certification, and operational readiness; support incident response in active operational environments.
  4. Risk Management & Continuous Improvement: Conduct hazard identification, risk assessments, and mitigation activities; support operational and process changes with safety input while tracking performance trends to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  5. Training & Safety Culture: Develop, deliver, and maintain workplace safety training programs; ensure completion of all required certifications; coach employees and leaders on safe work practices while promoting a strong and visible safety culture through hands‑on operational engagement.
What We’re Looking For
  • 5+ years of experience in Occupational Health & Safety advisory within manufacturing, food production, or distribution environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Health Sciences, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation, including WorkSafe BC requirements, BC OHS Regulations, and applicable CSA Standards.
  • Demonstrated hands‑on experience in safety program development, policy implementation, investigations, audits, risk assessments, and hazard identification, with coaching and mentorship capability.
  • Advanced First Aid (OFA Level 3) certification and formal training in risk assessment and hazard identification.
