Job summary

Winnipeg Regional Health Authority is seeking a term-based Safety & Prevention Lead to drive the development and maintenance of the organization's occupational health and safety program. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to ensure compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations and to promote a safe workplace culture.

The role requires leadership, strong communication, and the ability to coordinate initiatives across WRHA sites.

Position Overview

Under the general guidance of the Director or designate, and as a collaborate member of a multidisciplinary team, the incumbent is responsible for leading and assisting with the development and maintenance of all prevention oriented Occupational and Environment Health & Safety program including:

• Leading the development and maintenance of the Occupational and Environmental Safety & Health program from a safety & health perspective.
• Responsible for the development and promotion of a healthy and safe workplace philosophy and framework within the WRHA.
• Coordinating the development and implementation of a safety program within the WRHA that is compliant with the Workplace Safety & Health Act and all relevant legislation and regulations.
• Advising and guiding departments/sites towards achieving compliance with Health & Safety regulations, codes and practices within their units.
• Assisting program and service managers in facilitating the resolution of concerns.
• Acting as a resource in the design, delivery, management of evaluation of the corporate Workplace health & safety programs, including activities associated with the maintenances of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Safe Work practices, audits and training.
• Acting as the lead of the WRHA Safety Coordinator team providing service to the WRHA integrated groups.
• Ability to effectively act in neutral capacity in matters related to accident investigation and health & safety regulatory capacity.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years in Workplace Health & Safety, preferably in a healthcare environment.
• Previous experience performing all aspects of Job Hazard Analysis.
• Previous experience in the development and implementation of Health & Safety programs in accordance with the Workplace Safety & Health Act.
• Previous experience in the preparation and delivery of Occupational Health & Safety educational material.
• Prior experience working with computers business software, particularly Microsoft Office 2000 and Microsoft Project Management preferred.
• Supervisory or management experience an asset.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

• Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety/Industrial Hygiene.
• Registration as Canadian Registered Safety Professional preferred.
