  • Lead incident investigations, perform root cause analyses, and develop corrective action plans
  • Maintain and update the Project Hazard Log, ensuring safety risks are identified, recorded, and mitigated throughout the project lifecycle
  • Oversee and support the development of Owners Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (OHIRA) for projects
  • Conduct risk assessment in the assignment or retention of Prime Contractors, ensuring appropriate safety measures are in place
  • Act as a safety lead for multiple engineering and construction projects, ensuring safe execution of work
  • Coordinate with Prime Contractors, field operations, and construction management teams to enforce safety protocols
  • Conduct Safety By Design reviews to integrate hazard control measures into engineering plans
  • Provide on-site safety support, including job hazard analysis, field inspections, and safety audits
  • Ensure compliance with electrical safety requirements, including limits of approach, confined space entry, and arc flash protection
  • Deliver safety orientations and training sessions to project personnel, contractors, and subcontractors
  • Develop and maintain Safety Management Plans (SMP) and Environmental Protection Plans (EPP) as required
  • Ensure that all safety documents, incident reports, and compliance records are accurate, up to date, and properly filed
  • Participate in internal and external safety audits to maintain high safety performance standards

Qualifications

  • Certification in Occupational Health & Safety (e.g., Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or equivalent)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field (preferred but not mandatory)
  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience in a safety management role within the utilities, engineering, or construction industry
  • Experience in safety leadership roles on projects involving electrical transmission & distribution systems, substations, and high-voltage work
  • Strong understanding of BC safety requirements, WorkSafe BC, and OSHA standards
  • Knowledge of Prime Contractor responsibilities and multi-employer worksite safety coordination
  • Field experience with high-voltage electrical systems and T&D construction safety is a strong asset
  • Proven experience in incident investigation, risk assessment, and safety training
  • Excellent knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety regulations and industry best practices
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to influence and guide teams on safety matters
  • Ability to interpret engineering plans and integrate safety controls into project designs
