Vertex Resource Group Ltd. is seeking a Safety Advisor to join our team in Sherwood Park, AB. This full-time role focuses on field safety across multiple locations, with travel to worksites and client facilities throughout the week.

The successful candidate will work with operations, safety personnel, and clients to promote a strong safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and support safe project execution. Some evenings/weekends may be required.

Qualifications

Job description

Vertex Resource Group Ltd. is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Safety Advisor to join our team in a full-time, permanent capacity. Based out of our Sherwood Park office, this position plays a key role in supporting our operations, project teams, and clients across multiple business lines and locations.

This is a field-focused role that requires frequent travel to worksites, client locations, and operational facilities throughout the week. The successful candidate will spend a significant portion of their time in the field partnering with operations, safety personnel, supervisors, and clients to promote a strong safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and support safe project execution. While the regular schedule is Monday through Friday, (this is a salaried position) occasional evening and weekend work may be required to support operational needs, special projects, audits, investigations, emergency response activities, or client requirements.

The Safety Advisor serves as a trusted resource to employees and leadership, providing hands‑on guidance, coaching, training, and safety support across a variety of industrial, environmental, transportation, and field operations. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization, and a commitment to maintaining Vertex's high standards for safety, operational excellence, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as a subject matter expert in confined space operations, industrial cleaning procedures, and first aid response.
• Prepare and facilitate daily and weekly safety meetings, ensuring crews are informed of hazards, procedures, and safety expectations.
• Develop, implement, and oversee rescue plans for confined space entry and work at heights activities.
• Support crews in the completion and review of hazard assessments and job hazard analyses to ensure risks are identified and controlled.
• Monitor onsite personnel to ensure compliance with safety standards, operational procedures, client requirements, permits, and company policies.
• Manage onsite safety resources including breathing air systems, gas detection equipment, radios, and monitoring meters, and provide technical support as required.
• Conduct daily reviews of completed safety documentation, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company and client standards, and distribute copies as required.
• Assist with worksite inspections and incident investigations as delegated by the supervisor.
• Supervise, support, and mentor Vertex personnel, promoting a strong safety culture and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation required.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a safety-related role on site
• Demonstrated experience in industrial cleaning environments, including confined space entry, high-pressure operations, and related safety procedures.
• Strong knowledge of safety regulations, hazard assessments, permits, and safe work practices within industrial or field-based operations.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively engage with field crews, supervisors, and clients.
• Strong time management skills, with the ability to balance office responsibilities and field presence.
• Proven customer service mindset and ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
• Demonstrated administrative and documentation skills, including strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to lead, guide, and mentor team members within the scope of the role.
• H2S, Standard First Aid, CSO, CSTS tickets are required.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract required.
