Job summary

AltaSteel is seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Safety Advisor to join our Risk Management team. In this role, you will provide expert health and safety guidance to operational teams while supporting the development and continuous improvement of safety programs and initiatives across the organization.

The Senior Safety Advisor works closely with plant operations and frontline leadership to promote a culture of safety, ensure compliance with occupational health and safety legislation,

Qualifications

• Diploma or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
• CRSP or working towards CRSP/CRST considered an asset.
• Up to 10 years experience in a Health and Safety field related role.
• Excellent knowledge of provincial OH&S legislation.
• Exceptional interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
• Strong team player with collaborative working style.
• Strong work ethic and ability to excel in a fast paced environment.
• Monday to Friday 7:30am - 4:30pm with a one hour unpaid lunch.
• Pre-employment alcohol and drug test required with zero tolerance policy.
• Criminal Record background check required.

Responsibilities

• Provide health and safety advisory support to frontline supervisors and operational teams.
• Promote and reinforce safe work practices and compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable legislation.
• Mentor and support leadership and work teams in building safety awareness and leadership capability.
• Assist in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health and safety programs and initiatives.
• Conduct workplace hazard assessments and risk evaluations.
• Participate in incident investigations, including identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Provide guidance on the use of risk management and hazard identification tools.
• Deliver safety training and awareness programs as required.
• Monitor workplace practices and provide recommendations to improve safety performance.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to safety performance and risk management.
• Maintain current knowledge of safety practices, regulatory requirements, and industry standards through professional development and participation in industry networks.

Qualifications & Skills
