Job summary

Conifer Energy Inc. is seeking an experienced Field Safety Advisor based out of the Carson Creek office to lead HSSE programs across central Alberta's upstream oil and gas operations.

You will partner with operations, contractors and corporate teams to strengthen regulatory compliance, conduct risk-based inspections, and support investigations and corrective actions. Travel between operating areas is required, and you may be on-call for emergency support as part of the rotation.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in OH&S or a related discipline.
• CRSP/CHSC/NCSO or equivalent preferred.
• 5+ years of health and safety experience in western Canadian oil and gas.
• Experience with HSSE management-system elements, audits and investigations.
• Knowledge of Alberta OHS legislation and workers’ compensation requirements.
• Emergency management and Incident Command experience preferred.
• First Aid and H2S Alive certifications.
• Class 5 Alberta license and ability to travel.
• Willingness to travel between operating areas.

SUMMARY

Conifer Energy is a sustainability-focused energy company, which utilizes a synthesis of conventional systems and novel industrial processes to deliver increased carbon, waste and energy-efficiency in hydrocarbon extraction, refining and end-use.

We are recruiting for an experienced Field Safety Advisor, based out of our Carson Creek office. The ideal candidate will provide health and safety leadership and practical field support across upstream oil and gas operations in central Alberta. The role partners with operations leaders, employees, contractors and corporate functions to strengthen the health, safety, security and environmental (HSSE) management system, prevent incidents, support regulatory compliance, and embed consistent risk management in field activities, projects and operational decision-making.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Participate in the development, implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement of occupational health and safety programs, standards, procedures and tools within the corporate HSSE management system.
• Provide visible field leadership, coaching and safety advice to operations, maintenance, construction, drilling, completions, abandonment and reclamation activities, as applicable.
• Monitor field work and contractor activities to verify compliance with company HSSE requirements, safe work practices, applicable legislation and site-specific controls.
• Plan and conduct risk-based inspections, audits and compliance evaluations of facilities, equipment and work in progress; document findings, assign actions and verify effective closure.
• Facilitate or support hazard assessments, job safety analyses, management of change reviews, pre-job planning and higher-risk work reviews.
• Lead or support investigations of incidents, near misses, occupational illnesses, hazards and complaints using SCAT tool; develop practical corrective and preventive actions and share learnings.
• Advise leadership on health and safety performance including reporting on HSSE trends, critical metrics and emerging risks due to pending regulatory changes.
• Coordinate internal and external safety training, competency assurance, emergency preparedness exercises and contractor orientations.
• Support emergency management and incident command activities, including plan maintenance, drills, response readiness and post-event improvement actions.
• Support documentation and required incident investigation and reporting for occupational injuries, illnesses, exposure concerns, releases, inspections, audits, training and corrective actions using internal cloud-based management system.
• Build effective working relationships with employees, contractors, service providers and regulators while promoting accountability, learning and respectful intervention.
• Provide field coverage across operating areas and participate in after-hours emergency support or an on-call rotation when required.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Post-secondary education in occupational health and safety, engineering technology, operations, a skilled trade or a related discipline; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC), National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), or a comparable professional designation is preferred.
• 5+ years of health and safety experience in the western Canadian oil and gas industry, including significant upstream field experience.
• Demonstrated experience developing and implementing HSSE management-system elements, conducting audits and inspections, and leading incident investigations and corrective-action processes.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Alberta occupational health and safety legislation, workers’ compensation requirements, industry standards and accepted health and safety practices.
• Experience in emergency management and the Incident Command System is strongly preferred.
• ValidIntermediate First Aid and H 2 S Alive certifications.
• Valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license and acceptable driver’s abstract.
• Ability to travel regularly between operating areas, work outdoors in varied conditions, and be away from home for short periods when operationally required.

• Clear, concise written and verbal communication with the ability to engage front-line workers, contractors, technical specialists and senior leaders.
• Proven facilitation, coaching, influencing and conflict-resolution skills; comfortable intervening respectfully when unsafe conditions or behaviours are observed.
• Strong analytical, investigation, report-writing, planning and follow-through capabilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities independently, respond effectively to changing field conditions and maintain accurate, confidential records.
• Demonstrated commitment to learning, continuous improvement, worker participation and a proactive safety culture.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and digital HSSE management, incident, inspection and action-tracking systems.
