Job summary

Sunnybrook is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to provide patient- and family-centered care. The role focuses on less complex health needs with predictable outcomes, while collaborating with RNs and the health care team to support optimal functioning.

The autonomous practitioner will work within an interdisciplinary team, upholding professional standards, and contributing to supportive, preventive, therapeutic, and rehabilitative care for patients and families.

Qualifications

• Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• RPN diploma required or bridging with plan to complete within 2–3 years.
• Course in Physical Assessment to be completed within 6 months.
• Course in Medication Administration to be completed within 6 months.
• BCLS certification with ongoing renewal.
• RPNAO membership preferred.
• Experience relative to the patient population of the unit preferred.
• Demonstrates professional judgment and interpersonal skills with patients and families.
• Ability to organize patient care demands and set priorities.
• Ability to collaborate with RNs, RPns, physicians and health care team.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities

• Establish caring relationships with patients and families to promote health and treat conditions.
• Provide patient- and family-centered nursing care for less complex health needs with predictable outcomes.
• Collaborate with RNs and the health care team to support patients with complex issues as needed.
• Maintain professional autonomy while working with the interdisciplinary care team.
