Stuart Olson is seeking skilled tradespeople with strong rigging experience for a Turneraround project in Fort McMurray, Alberta. This contract includes long shifts, travel from Edmonton or Calgary, and a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities

  • Synthesizing information from blueprints and plans to select materials and quantities for a project.
  • Securely bolts metal structures together using beams and columns.
  • Transporting heavy metal pieces from ground to elevated locations with cranes or teamwork.
  • Ensure proper placement, balance and alignment using levels and laser tools.
  • Fabricate metal pieces to meet project specs.
  • Work at heights and in variable outdoor conditions following provincial regulations.

Site: Fort McMurray, AB - Turnaround
Schedule: 6/1, 12/2, 18/3 & 24/4 based off a 7/7 rotation contract, 12 - 14 hour per days during shutdown & 12 hour days for post. Work scope good until mid-November. Dayshift & Nightshift available.
Travel: Flights provided from Edmonton and Calgary, Travel allowance program for out of province employees

Responsibilities
  • Synthesizing information from a variety of sources, including blueprints, plans and written specifications, in order to select proper materials and the amounts needed for a project
  • Using details from written plans and instructions from supervisors in order to securely bolt metal structures like beams and columns together
  • Transporting heavy metal pieces from the ground level to a higher location using tools like cranes or working with other team members to help position pieces correctly
  • Ensuring proper placement, balance, and alignment of structural pieces by using levels, laser tools or plumb bobs
  • Transforming metal pieces into functional elements that meet the guidelines of the project by cutting materials and using fabrication techniques
  • Accessing challenging work positions that are either at elevation or otherwise difficult to reach while following proper provincial regulations
Qualifications
  • Journeyperson Ironworker ticket, Or;
  • Journeyperson Welding ticket, Or;
  • Apprentices welcome with valid apprentice ticket
  • Competent rigging experience considered biggest asset
  • *Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) Welders’ ticket will also be considered
  • Common Safety Orientation (CSO) or CSTS 09 and WHMIS, Mandatory
  • Energy Safety Canada Certified Fall Protection
  • Pre-Access Drug and Alcohol testing
Working Conditions
  • Working at heights when required
  • Working in and around noise and dust
  • Working both indoors and outdoors in hot and cold weather conditions
  • Must be clean shaven
  • Personal safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots
Physical Requirements
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50lbs; occasionally lift items weighing more than 50 lbs. with assistance
  • Stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Use arms and hands to reach for, handle or manipulate objects
  • Climb up and down ladders, scaffolds and other objects
