Job summary

The Exploration Place in Prince George, BC is seeking a Visitor Services & Retail Assistant to join our front desk, admissions, and gift shop team.

You will deliver friendly, professional customer service to visitors of all ages, handle sales with a POS system, maintain cash balance, and help promote memberships and events.

This role starts at 24 hours per week and will grow to 40 hours weekly in late October, with shifts Fri-Sun initially and additional Mon-Tue later.

Qualifications

• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
• Willing to submit to a criminal record check due to interaction with children and/or vulnerable populations.
• Experience in customer service, retail, or hospitality is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Greet visitors and provide information about exhibits, programs, admissions, and memberships.
• Process admissions, retail sales, and memberships using a Point-of-Sale system.
• Check current members into the museum.
• Maintain accurate cash handling and daily balancing procedures.
• Maintain cleanliness of the gift shop area.
• Promote memberships and upcoming events and support group bookings as needed.
• Assist with special events as needed.
• Represent the museum with integrity and align with our mission.
• Other duties as assigned.

Who are we looking for?

The Exploration Place is seeking an enthusiastic, outgoing, motivated, and energetic people-person to support our visitor services team.As a front-line point of contact between our organization and visitors, this role focuses on front desk admissions and gift shop retail duties. The Visitor Services & Retail Assistant is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, fostering a positive, professional, and welcoming environment for all visitors, and ensuring that all visitors have the necessary information to maximize their experience.

What are the hours?

This position begins at 24 hours (3 days) a week (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). In late October, the schedule will expand to include Monday and Tuesday shifts as well. A regular workday is 8 hours, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.Regular shift is 8:45am to 5:15pm.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities we are looking for:

• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
• Willing to submit to a criminal record check given the interaction with children and/or vulnerable populations
• Accurately and swiftly handle sales transactions, or have the willingness to learn
• Friendly, professional, responsible, and adaptable
• Efficient and consistently organized
• Outgoing with a genuine excitement to meet, engage, and assist visitors of diverse backgrounds, including children
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact in a kind, tactful, and professional manner with both visitors and staff
• Ability to work closely and communicate respectfully with The Exploration Place team at large
• Proficient in Office 365
• Effective conflict management and decision-making
• Strong ability to multitask and manage time effectively
• Must be comfortable with communication and collaboration tools such as Slack
• Must show flexibility when asked to perform other tasks as needed
• Must be dependable and committed to carrying out your responsibilities to the best of your ability

The following will be considered an asset for this position:

• Experience in customer service, retail, and/or hospitality, providing high-quality customer service
• Cash handling experience
