Job summary

Canopy by Hilton Toronto Yorkville is seeking a Host/ Food and Drink Enthusiast to welcome guests to the restaurant and provide fast, courteous service, ensuring an enjoyable dining experience.

You will seat guests, handle cash and take-out orders, support servers, and maintain a polished image. Prior cash handling or food service experience is preferred. This on-site role offers benefits and opportunities in downtown Toronto. Evenings, weekends and holidays may be required.

Qualifications

• 6 months of cash handling experience or food service experience preferred.
• Alcohol awareness certification and/or food service permit or valid health/food handler card may be required by local regulations.
• Basic reading, writing, and math skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Welcomes guests promptly and courteously; seats guests and balances workload among servers.
• Maintains an accurate waiting list and notifies guests when tables are ready.
• Assists with opening tasks and daily specials; may take-out orders and handle room service orders.
• Processes payments, ensures accuracy of cash drawer, and completes opening/closing paperwork.
• May assist bus persons with clearing and setting tables.
• Responds quickly to guest requests and follows up to ensure satisfaction.

Position Title: Host/ Food and Drink Enthusiast

Reports To: Director, Food and Beverage/Lead Food and Drink Enthusiast

Welcomes guests to the restaurant and provides fast and courteous service to ensure an enjoyable dining experience and repeat business.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Greets the guests promptly and courteously; seats guests, ensuring a balanced workload among servers.
• Maintains an accurate waiting list as needed. Alerts guests when the table is available.
• Assists the Manager or Supervisor with opening tasks such as assigning stations to servers for meal periods and retrieving daily specials.
• Processes take-out orders; may answer the room service phone and process room service orders; practices suggestive selling techniques.
• Receives customer payment from servers and processes transactions on the cash register as outlined in the cash and charge procedures; gives correct change; balances cash drawer at the close of shift; completes all opening/closing paperwork; documents voids on the void balance sheet.
• May assist bus persons in clearing, cleaning, and setting tables.
• Responds quickly to guest requests in a friendly manner. Follow up to ensure guest satisfaction.
• Always provides a professional image through appearance and dress.
• Perform other duties as assigned. In carrying out the duties, the associate will follow all Company and Brand Standards.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Basic reading, writing, and math skills, and 6 months of cash handling experience or food service experience preferred.

This job requires the ability to perform the following:

• Handling, carrying, or lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Remain stationary for extended periods.
• Moving about the restaurant

Other:

• Communicates effectively with guests, team members, and management to ensure exceptional service and smooth daily operations.
• Alcohol awareness certification and/or food service permit or valid health/food handler card as required by local or state government agency.
• Reading and writing abilities are utilized often when taking orders, describing cocktail items, completing paperwork, etc.
• Basic math skills are frequently used when handling cash and credit.
• May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays.

Health and Safety

• Follow safe work procedures as outlined in Departmental Policy and Procedures manuals, including the use of personal protective equipment.
• Know and comply with all Occupational Health & Safety regulations, as per the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Ministry of Labor.
• Report all injuries or illnesses to a supervisor or manager immediately.
• Participate in the Joint Health and Safety Committee by bringing health and safety concerns or issues to the attention of the committee.
