Job summary

York Hills is a children’s mental health agency providing services to children, youth and families in York Region. The Respite Worker will join a multidisciplinary team for one-to-one respite, with potential evenings and weekends, in-home or out-of-home depending on need in Aurora, Ontario.

The role requires a Diploma or degree in Child and Youth Work or related field, 1-2 years of field experience, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Child and Youth Work Diploma or related Diploma/Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-2 years of field experience.
  • Experience in providing one-on-one support to children and youth.
  • Nurture a stimulating, positive and safe physical environment for children and youth.
  • Ability to assess the mental emotional needs of the child/youth to plan suitable social and recreational activities.
  • Facilitate interventions and provide counselling utilizing industry best practices.
  • Knowledge of trauma informed, child development and neurobiology approaches.
  • Perform work collaboratively, specifically within a multi-disciplinary team model, through supportive communication, case support and planning.
  • Supervise and participate in planned activities.
  • Possess excellent communication (verbal and written), time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of York Region and available resources.
  • Active participation in a learning environment.
  • Functional technological skills (e.g., Office 365, MS Office, SharePoint, and Client Databases).
  • Awareness and appreciation for the dynamics of equity issues (diversity, equity and inclusion).
  • Identification with the strategic mission, vision and values of the organization, including inclusion, collaboration, people-centred, knowledgeable and courageous.
  • Ability to perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

York Hills is a children’s mental health agency that offers a wide range of mental health services, supports and partnerships providing meaningful and evidence informed/based treatment to children, and youth, aged 0 to18 years, and their families.

Reporting to the Coordinator of Respite Services, the Respite Worker will work with children and youth who have complex emotional and behavioural needs, including but not limited to; Anxiety, attention difficulties, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. The primary focus will be to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in an individualized one-to-one respite service environment. As a Respite Worker there will be flexibility to work evenings and weekends providing in-home respite services or out-of-home care depending on the needs of the individual requiring respite services and their family needs.

Employment Status: Part-Time, Subcontractor
Contract Duration: 12 months with possible extension and/or renewal
Location: Aurora Office, this position will require travel within York Region
Hours of Work: Up to twelve (12) hours per week
Rate of Pay: $28.03 per hour

NICE TO HAVES:
  • Applicants with fluency in another language are encouraged to apply.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language.
ON-BOARDING REQUIREMENTS:
  • A Vulnerable Sector Screening Check (within the last 180 days).
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a reliable motor vehicle.
  • Completion of a Driver’s Abstract.
  • Proof of automobile insurance.
