Job summary

Alberta Health Services Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre is seeking a Respiratory Therapist II to support the Operating Room. You will coordinate, monitor and assess intraoperative respiratory therapy, working closely with anesthesia, surgeons and nurses to deliver safe patient care.

You will develop care plans, manage equipment, and participate in interdisciplinary rounds to ensure high-quality outcomes in a busy OR setting.

Qualifications

  • Active or eligible registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CRTA).
  • Graduate of a recognized school of Respiratory Therapy accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Respiratory Therapy Education.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, monitor and assess respiratory therapy in the intraoperative phase.
  • Develop and implement respiratory care plans and monitor progress of patients receiving advanced therapy.
  • Identify equipment needs and maintain respiratory equipment and supplies; participate in interprofessional rounds and meetings.

Your Opportunity

Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre serves the community of Central Alberta. Our Operating Room consists of 9 OR theatres that specialize in General Surgery, Orthopedic - Trauma and Total Joints, Plastics, Gynecology, ENT, and Urology. Our multidisciplinary team includes Surgeons, Anesthesiologists, Perioperative Registered Nurses, ORTs, Respiratory Therapists II, Anesthesia Assistants and support staff. As a Registered Therapist II in the operating room, you will be responsible for providing care in the intraoperative phase. You will be responsible for working closely with anesthesia. Strong communication and collaboration skills are important; problem-solving skills using critical thinking, time management and adaptability are imperative; leadership and conflict resolution skills are essential to this role. There is also an opportunity to further your career as an anesthesia assistant.


Description

As a Respiratory Therapist II, you will coordinate, monitor and assess clinical services in your assigned area. You will act as a clinical resource for daily operations, coordinating the work of therapy assessment and treatment in your service area, and assist in the development of clinical protocols. You will develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor the progress of patients (clients, residents) receiving advanced respiratory treatment. You will identify new equipment requirements, and establish and maintain adequate levels of supplies and materials for your area. You will be responsible for respiratory equipment, including but not limited to operation, procurement, maintenance, and quality assurance. You will participate in interprofessional patient, client or resident rounds, conferences and meetings where applicable.
