Job summary

Sault Area Hospital is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to monitor, evaluate and treat patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary issues across units, 24/7. You will provide advance life support, airway management, and mechanical ventilation while adhering to RHPA and hospital standards.

The role involves working with newborns, pediatrics and adults, performing diagnostics, and collaborating with the resuscitation team to improve patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a recognized Respiratory Therapy program.
• Current registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario in good standing.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic tests such as arterial blood gas analysis and cardiopulmonary function tests.
• Initiate, maintain and monitor neonatal, pediatric and adult patients requiring invasive and non-invasive ventilation.
• Operate and monitor respiratory equipment to administer treatments (oxygen, oxygen-air mixtures, medications).
• Operate, monitor, maintain and test diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.
• Assess patients and assist with airway maintenance, arterial line insertions and intubations.
• Perform basic and advanced airway management as part of the Code Blue/Pink response team.
• Assist with transport of high-risk adult, pediatric and neonate patients.
• Attend all high-risk infant deliveries in the hospital.
• Assist physicians with bronchoscopy.
• Demonstrate professional conduct and commitment to self-growth and development.
• Maintain knowledge of best practices, accreditation, policy and legislative requirements and implement improvements as appropriate.
• Comply with organizational policies, procedures and standards.
• Other duties as assigned.

As a member of this team you will be providing advance life support, establishing/ maintaining airway support, mechanical ventilation and performing all duties in accordance with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario professional standards and the Registered Health Professionals Act (RHPA).

• Attend all high risk infant deliveries in the hospital.
• Assist physicians with bronchoscopy.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a recognized Respiratory Therapy program – 3-year diploma.
• Current registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario in good standing.

Knowledge, Skill & Ability

• Knowledge of department, organization and professional standards and relevant legislation; RHPA and Respiratory Therapy Act (RTA).
• Customer service, interpersonal and telephone skills.
• Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment.
