Job summary

Kelowna Gospel Mission (KGM) is seeking a Casual Resident Support Worker to assist residents experiencing homelessness, ensuring a safe and respectful environment. You will support basic needs, help with transitions, and uphold the organization's values of dignity and care.

The role requires intake and ongoing support, collaboration with volunteers, and adherence to safety policies. Bay Ave operates an Overdose Prevention Site with supervised consumption.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required as minimum.
• Experience in frontline work with mental health, addictions or trauma is preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication and record-keeping abilities.
• Ability to work with volunteers and provide direction.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite utilities is expected.

Responsibilities

• Handles admission, orientation and evaluation of residents’ understanding of rules; enforces policies.
• Records information and maintains client files, daily log, and completes reports.
• Gathers equipment and assists with meals and light cleaning.
• Liaises with referral sources and external agencies as needed.
• Coordinates resident care related to security; may conduct bed checks and searches.
• Provides a non-judgmental supportive environment to promote growth and empowerment.
• Performs other related tasks as required.

As a Casual Resident Support Worker (RSW) at KGM, you oversee frontline activities, ensuring a safe environment for individuals experiencing homelessness. From assisting residents with basic needs to supporting their transition, you play a vital role in upholding our core values of respect and dignity. Key Responsibilities

• Handles the admission, orientation and evaluation of residents’ understanding of rules; ensures ongoing enforcement of policies;
• Recording information and maintenance of client files, daily log, and completes occurrence reports;
• Gather all equipment necessary and assist with meal services and light duty cleaning;
• Liaises with referral sources and other external agencies as needed;
• Coordinates resident care relating to security issues; may be directly involved in doing bed checks and room/personal searches;
• Providing a non-judgmental supportive environment to promote growth and empowerment;
• Performs other related tasks as required.

Position Requirements

• Specialized training and certification in mental health, addiction, counselling or trauma is an asset;
• Minimum of 3 months experience as a front-line worker with people with mental health challenges, addictions and trauma;
• Completion of High School Diploma as a minimum;
• Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records;
• Ability to work well with volunteers and provide direction;
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products;
• Ability to efficiently multi-task in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail;
• This position is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (Vulnerable Sector).

Additional Information

• Salary/Hourly/Contract/Temp $24 per hour ($25 for overnight)
• Work Schedule: Start Time and End Time Various - 24/7
• Additional Info minimum of 1 shift per pay period and up to 40 hours per week when available
