Job summary

CMHA Kelowna & District is hiring a full-time Supportive Housing Worker for our Supportive Housing Program. This role offers 32 hours per week with a Friday–Monday 11pm–7am schedule across five housing sites in Kelowna.

The SHW provides 24/7 support, helps residents with daily living, life skills, and accessing community resources, while ensuring safety and appropriate documentation.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent education required.
• Criminal Record Check clearance in the Vulnerable Sector.
• Diploma in Human Services or related field considered an asset.
• Certificates in First Aid, CPR, Naloxone and Food Safe considered an asset.
• Experience in a Supportive Housing environment considered an asset.
• Basic computer skills including MS Outlook, Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct support within a 24/7 supportive housing environment.
• Support participants with daily living activities and skill development.
• Facilitate life skills such as housekeeping and using public transit.
• Identify and connect participants with community resources and referrals.
• Monitor medication and provide reminders, manage crises and safety.
• Maintain participant records and documentation.
• Collaborate with team leads and other professionals to address needs.

CMHA Kelowna & District is hiring a full-time SupportiveHousing Worker for our Supportive Housing Program. This position offers 32hours per week with a work schedule of Friday – Monday, 11pm-7am. We have fiveSupportive Housing Sites located throughout Kelowna that have been successfullyhousing and supporting individuals who are unhoused or at risk of beingunhoused for more than 20 years.

WHO IS A SUPPORTIVE HOUSINGWORKER?

The Supportive Housing Worker(SHW) provides direct support working within a 24-hour, 7 days per weeksupportive housing environment with adults struggling with a variety ofchallenges including homelessness, substance use, mental health and mentalillness. SHWs ensure that program participants’ physical, emotional, social,and medical needs are met and provide a safe and secure environment to enhancequality of life through activities of daily living, the development of lifeskills and fostering independence.

WHAT DOES A SUPPORTIVE HOUSINGWORKER DO?

• Recognizes participants’ strengths and honorstheir abilities while offering flexible person-centered support in establishingand progressing towards goals
• Provides feedback and input regarding participants’ needs and progress to the Team Lead and other involved communityprofessionals
• Supports the Recreation Worker with various participant-focused social and recreational activities
• Identifies available social, economic,recreational, and educational services and resources in the community that willmeet participant needs and facilitates referrals
• Provides life skills training such as housekeeping, personal self-management skills, and assistance with using publictransit to get to appointments\
• Ensures a safe and healthy site for participants
• Completes indoor and outdoor housekeeping duties, including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, emptying garbage bins,yard work, shoveling snow, etc.
• Monitors medication and provide medication reminders
• Recognize and respond to potential emergency situations such as crisis response, mental health and substance use, suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation to ensure the safety of participants and staff
• Manages crises, including provide timely response in providing CPR and Naloxone as part of overdose response
• Completes and maintains related records and documentation including daily program participant logs, case relateddocumentation, progress reports
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

YOUR STRENGTHS & EXPERIENCE:

• Grade 12 or equivalent education required
• Ability to transport program participants to activities and appointments within the community via public transit on an occasional basis
• Ability to travel between facilities to provide shift coverage on an occasional basis
• Criminal Record Check clearance in the Vulnerable Sector
• Diploma in Human Services or related field considered an asset
• Certificates in First Aid, CPR, Naloxone and Food Safe considered an asset
• Experience working in a Supportive Housing environment considered an asset
• Experience working in the Community Social Service sector considered an asset
• Ability to be regularly exposed to individuals who are struggling with and/or recovering from trauma, drug/alcohol use, homelessness, mental health challenges and/or mental illness
• Ability to be regularly exposed to and in direct contact with dust, dirt, germs and human bio-products
• Verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to engage respectfully and develop rapport with program participants with multiple barriers
• Ability to work in cooperation with team members and independently
• Understanding of and commitment to working with people experiencing mental health concerns and substance use
• Working knowledge of community-based resources
• Ability to maintain consistent professional boundaries
• Basic understanding of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
• Understanding of working with a Trauma Informed lens
• Understanding of Harm Reduction and HousingFirst principles
• Ability to organize and prioritize competing program and participant needs
• Strong attention to detail for documenting participant logs and critical incidents
• Ability to recognize changes in residents, analyze and resolve challenges
• Problem-solving and crisis intervention skills to resolve participant conflicts
