Job summary

Cedar Strong Prevention & Intervention Society in Hope, BC is seeking an Activity Worker to plan and facilitate recreational, social, cultural, and life-skills activities within a new supportive housing facility. You’ll support clients, adapt activities to individual needs, and work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The role emphasizes building respectful relationships with clients, maintaining documentation, and contributing to a trauma-informed, culturally safe program.

Qualifications

  • Certificate in a related human services, social services, recreation, or community-support field.
  • At least six months of recent related experience.
  • Valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence.
  • Occupational First Aid Level 1 or equivalent.
  • Naloxone training.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate recreational, social, educational, cultural, and life-skills activities.
  • Encourage and support clients to participate in activities that promote social connection, skill development, confidence, and independence.
  • Adapt established activities to meet clients’ individual abilities, interests, cultural backgrounds, and support needs.
  • Participate in developing individual activity plans and provide feedback regarding client participation and progress.
  • Lead activities such as arts and crafts, storytelling, music, traditional food preparation, seasonal events, sports, and land-based-inspired learning.
  • Deliver activities in a culturally safe, trauma-informed, and respectful manner.
  • Model appropriate interpersonal, social, and life skills.
  • Prepare activity areas, gather supplies, set up furnishings and equipment, and maintain an inventory of program materials.
  • Observe clients and their environments and report behavioural, physical, cognitive, or safety-related changes to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Accompany clients on community outings, including appointments, shopping, recreational activities, and other scheduled activities.
  • Respond appropriately to client feedback, questions, concerns, and complaints.
  • Encourage clients to participate in activities of daily living and household responsibilities.
  • Complete records and documentation, including activity statistics, participation records, progress reports, observation reports, and client activity profiles.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with clients’ families, community service providers, and other professionals.
  • Perform housekeeping duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, laundry, and washing dishes.
  • Complete limited food preparation, such as heating prepared food and making tea, coffee, toast, salads, and sandwiches.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
