AbCellera is seeking a lab-based Research Scientist II to join our Vancouver team and bridge in vivo models with biological insights that shape our pipeline. You will design, execute, and analyze in vivo studies, collaborating with pharmacologists to inform go/no-go decisions on programs.

This is hands-on science that emphasizes rigour and curiosity to bring new medicines closer to patients. You should have a PhD or MSc with relevant industry experience in oncology or biologics, strong in vivo

We are looking for a lab-based Research Scientist II to join our Vancouver team and become a bridge between our in vivo models and the biological insights that shape our pipeline’s future. Working alongside experienced pharmacologists, you will support the design, execution, and analysis of in vivo studies that reveal how our drug to candidates behave in physiologically relevant settings to inform important go/no-go decisions on our programs. This is hands‑on, detail‑driven science, and your rigour and curiosity will play a direct role in getting new medicines closer to the patients who need them.

How you might spend your days

• Working with team members and project teams to define the preclinical in vivo strategy to advance pipeline programs from hit identification through candidate selection
• Collaborating with the In Vivo Models Team to design, develop, and validate novel animal models to expand internal capabilities and capture complex disease biology
• Designing, coordinating, and interpreting robust in vivo efficacy and pharmacology studies to generate efficacy data and build high confidence in lead candidate selection
• Collaborating with in vitro biology, protein engineering, and pharmacokinetics (PK/PD) scientists, as well as external CROs, to execute translational studies to screen and optimize lead molecules and advance programs toward human clinical trials
• Developing, performing, and supervising sample analysis to assess target engagement, biomarker modulation, and downstream pathway effects
• Training and mentoring junior scientists in ex vivo experimental plans and analytical methodologies
• Synthesizing and reporting complex research findings to internal program teams and senior leadership to enable clear, data‑driven decisions

We’d love to hear from you if

• You have a PhD in pharmacology, immunology, or a related field with 2-5 years of relevant industry experience, or an MSc with 5-8 years of experience, including hands‑on work in oncology, immuno‑oncology, and biologics drug development
• You have hands‑on experience designing and interpreting in vivo pharmacology models to assess PK, PD, and efficacy of test articles
• You have a strong understanding of research ethics specific to animal care
• You are genuinely curious, with an interest in discussing innovative ideas in a highly collaborative, cross‑functional and fast paced environment
• You communicate scientific and/or technical concepts effectively, with an emphasis on application
• You have a proven track record of independently identifying project needs and translating them into practical, well‑executed solutions
• You enjoy tackling complex biological questions and building datasets that help predict which therapies will succeed

What we offer

AbCellera’s hiring range for this role is CAD $95,000 - $112,000 annually, commensurate with your education and job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to base salary, we offer equity, annual bonus dependent on team and company performance, and a 6% (non‑match) RRSP contribution.
