AbCellera Biologics Inc. is seeking a VP, Medical Affairs to provide overall leadership for Medical Affairs, oversee field Medical Science Liaisons, and guide publications and patient advocacy relationships.

Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, you will partner with regulatory, clinical operations, and clinical development teams to shape the strategy from the ground up as we advance our pipeline toward the clinic.

We are looking for a VP, Medical Affairs to join our team to build and provide overall leadership for the Medical Affairs function, including executing on Medical Affairs priorities and investigator initiated activities, supervising field Medical Science Liaisons, overseeing clinical and scientific publications, and developing patient advocacy relationships. Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, you will also partner closely with the regulatory, clinical operations, and clinical development team members, as well as future commercial colleagues. This is a rare opportunity to shape the Medical Affairs strategy from the ground up as we advance our pipeline toward the clinic.

How you might spend your days

• Developing and implementing key Medical Affairs strategies to support prelaunch, and ultimately postlaunch needs across the portfolio
• Building and scaling the Medical Affairs team including building a team of field-based Medical Science Liaisons to support education and key opinion leader engagement as well as recruitment initiatives for upcoming late phase studies
• Developing and implementing medical communication and disease state awareness strategies, along with patient advocacy organizations and medical education groups
• Partnering with global key opinion leaders on current focused therapeutic area issues and questions and overseeing any investigator initiated studies
• Developing medical educational materials that are balanced and medically accurate
• Providing direction and input into the development and implementation of successful reimbursement and market-access strategies
• Tracking competitive landscape and messaging for key pipeline programs
• Overseeing the publication strategy, ensuring clinical data is presented at major congresses and in high-impact peer-reviewed journals
• Developing and managing departmental budgets that effectively achieve our goals and are balanced with the company’s financial objectives

We’d love to hear from you if

• You have an advanced degree (PharmD, PhD, or MD, with MD preferred), plus 15+ years of professional experience within Biotech/Pharma focused on Medical Affairs or related functions, ideally spanning both large and small pharma/biotechnology organizations, and 5+ years of people leadership experience including building high-performing teams
• You are experienced in both prelaunch (phase 3) and post launch activities, with preference for experience in a women’s health indication
• You deeply understand government and industry guidelines, regulations, and laws governing scientific and medical exchange, and you apply that knowledge to set the standard for compliant communication with clinical and scientific investigators
• You have proven experience attracting and developing top talent, building interdependent partnerships, and cultivating a culture of collaboration and teamwork that fosters open communication, constructive conflict resolution, and organizational flexibility - setting the tone for how your function operates and engages with the broader team
• You have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the company
• You’re willing to travel (25-40% at times) to represent the company at medical conferences, presentations, and other meetings

What we offer

AbCellera’s hiring range for this role is CAD $300,000 - $350,000 annually, commensurate with your education and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to base salary, we offer equity, an annual bonus dependent on team and company performance, and a 6% (non-match) RRSP contribution.
