Job summary

Simon Fraser University (SFU) in Burnaby seeks a professional to help researchers navigate ethics review and oversight processes. You will ensure applications are complete, consistent and compliant before the Board reviews the study.

You will also assist with study reviews to determine regulatory alignment. This role suits experienced research project managers or data coordinators with strong relationship-building and administrative skills, ideally in clinical or behavioral research ethics,

Qualifications

This department is a unit within the Vice-President Research & Innovation portfolio. The purpose of the Ethics process is to protect the research participants. In doing so, this team works closely with faculty researchers and with the Research Ethics Board (REB).

About the Role

In this role you will provide comprehensive and timely assistance to the research community in navigating the research ethics review and oversight process(es). You support the work of the REB by working with researchers to ensure applications are complete, consistent and compliant with required standards prior to the study being reviewed by the Board. You will also assist with the study review process – helping the Board to determine if the study meets the requirements of the many different regulations we work under.

This role would be well suited to experienced research project managers, and/or clinical trials/data assistants/coordinator/monitors. The ideal candidate for this role is a person with well-developed relationship building and administrative skills, preferably in clinical or behavioral research ethics. They will be able to bring efficient, effective, pragmatic, and innovative solutions to support participants, the SFU REB, and the research community.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences, Social Sciences, with three years related experience in a highly regulated administrative environment such as research ethics or clinical/behavioral research in an academic or clinical setting with emphasis on regulations, legislation, and guidelines, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Knowledge of research administration and ethics regulatory frameworks.
  • Organize large volumes of complex and diverse information and work and manage priorities.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. You will be working directly with many of SFU’s top researchers on their most critical projects.
  • Ability to work in a highly demanding environment where issues are diverse, changeable, and complex.
