Job summary

The University of British Columbia (SBME) in Vancouver invites applications for a Research Assistant/Technician 4 in the de Boer Lab. The position develops molecular tools, investigates gene sequence-function relationships, and scales DNA synthesis with high-throughput screening.

Responsibilities include designing experiments, performing DNA synthesis and testing, maintaining ELNs and lab inventory, and training junior staff.

Qualifications

• Completion of a university degree in a relevant discipline or technical program and a minimum four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own
• Experience maintaining electronic laboratory notebooks (ELNs), laboratory inventory systems, and ensuring proper documentation practices.

Responsibilities

• Gene synthesis and screening; design complex experiments involving DNA synthesis and testing enzyme activities.
• Plan, organize, and troubleshoot projects; create functionalized beads and perform DNA testing and sequencing related tasks.
• Maintain lab safety, prepare reagents, and ensure proper storage, inventory, and equipment function.
• Assist in training new lab members and contribute to report writing and publications.
