Job Summary: The Research Assistant/Technician II works in collaboration with the Research Team (e.g., Research Nurses, Coordinators, and Secretaries/Clerks) of the MS & NMO Clinical Trials Group to conduct clinical trials focused on supporting Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO) research. Responsibilities include assisting the study team with planning, organizing, and running research studies.
Working Conditions: The incumbent will work in the MS Clinic and associated laboratory at UBC's Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health. Work is conducted in an office setting with a computer and necessary supplies.
Organizational Status: The Research Assistant/Technician II reports to and is responsible to the Clinical Research Manager.
Work Performed: Responsibilities include subject communication, scheduling, coordinating recruitment, performing clinical tests, processing samples, maintaining records, and liaising with research teams and labs. Detailed duties are outlined in the original description.
Consequence of Error/Judgement: The role requires exercising initiative within guidelines; errors could lead to incorrect data collection, affecting study validity and subject confidentiality.
Supervision Received: The incumbent receives instructions during orientation and ongoing training, exercising judgment in task prioritization. Unusual problems are referred to the manager.
Supervision Given: May assign tasks to lower-classification employees and train new staff.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma, additional training, and at least two years of related experience or equivalent education and experience. Demonstrates respect for diversity and a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a medical clinic, clinical trials, Good Clinical Practice certification, research experience, and knowledge of multiple sclerosis are assets. Certification in Transportation of Dangerous Goods is preferred. Strong organizational and communication skills are required.
