Research Assistant - School of Indigenous Governance
Applied Science and Management

Wage: $32.68 to $38.90 hourly
Part-time: 56 hours bi-weekly (approximate)
Term: September 2025 to March 31, 2027

Responsibilities
  • Work with faculty in the School of Indigenous Governance on program development related to land guardians.
  • Support faculty and assist with project management and coordination, community engagement, minute taking, research and report writing.
  • Liaise with other faculty and staff at Yukon University.
  • Travel to Yukon communities as part of the role. Work hours are flexible but approximately 27.5 hours per week (based on mutual agreement between supervisor and researcher).
  • Organize and attend community meetings.
  • Take minutes and transcribe interview data.
  • Assist faculty in data collection and analysis; conduct thematic analysis of data.
  • Write reports and present data to community and academic audiences.
  • Track budgets and liaise with First Nation governments and academic institutions.
  • Collaborate with Indigenous Governance Chair and YukonU staff and faculty on academic processes and program development requirements.
Qualifications
  • Relevant university or college education with 2 years of research experience or an appropriate combination of education and work experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and with community engagement in a First Nations context.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and timelines.
  • Experience reviewing and summarizing literature; minute taking and report writing.
  • Basic understanding of ethics and confidentiality.
