The University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) is seeking a Research Assistant II to support community-engaged research, educational programming, and reconciliation initiatives with the Stó:lo Peoples through the PARC. You will coordinate projects, engage stakeholders, and assist in knowledge mobilization under supervision by the Director, PARC.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Indigenous Studies, History, Anthropology, Sociology, Criminology, Political Science, Education, Social Work, Geography, Peace and Conflict Studies, Communications, or another relevant discipline from a recognized postsecondary institution.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous histories, reconciliation, decolonization, cultural humility, or community-engaged research.
  • Minimum of two (2) years related experience supporting research, community-engaged projects, educational initiatives, or reconciliation-related work.
  • Experience conducting interviews, focus groups, community consultations, or stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook PowerPoint, Teams, and related technologies.
  • Strong research, analytical, and writing skills, and experience preparing reports and knowledge mobilization materials.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Research Assistant II works under the supervision of the Director, Peace and Reconciliation Centre (PARC), and supports community-engaged research, educational programming, knowledge mobilization, and reconciliation initiatives associated with the Stó:lo Peoples. The incumbent performs advanced research, project coordination, stakeholder engagement, facilitation, evaluation, and administrative functions in support of project objectives.

The incumbent works collaboratively with Indigenous communities, Stó:lo partners, researchers, students, and project stakeholders. The incumbent exercises cultural sensitivity, discretion, and sound judgement when working with Indigenous communities and research participants and provides project-specific guidance and support to students, volunteers, and other project personnel.

Qualifications

  • Ability to learn and apply sound research techniques, methodology and logical critical analysis.
  • Experience organizing and supporting research meetings, events and activities is required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and/ or weekends as required.
  • Ability to travel to off-site locations as required. Access to reliable transportation may be required for off-site field work.
