Our award-winning journalists and innovative product development teams deliver engaging content to millions of people weekly, wherever and whenever they want it. This extensive reach and scope provide advertisers and marketers with compelling solutions to reach target audiences. We are always seeking talented individuals to join our team.

The Opportunity:

The Ottawa Citizen and Ottawa Sun newsroom has an immediate opening for a reporter to help set the news agenda and drive comprehensive coverage of the federal public service. With over 150,000 public servants in the National Capital Region, the public service reporter will explore the relationship between the bureaucracy and Canada's capital, examine workplace issues affecting civil servants, analyze how government operations are evolving, and hold leaders accountable.

What you’ll do:
  • Create engaging, original journalism about the federal public service and federal institutions in the national capital.
  • Build trust with sources within the public service to tell their stories and break news.
  • Sift through data and online resources to uncover untold stories.
  • Collaborate with editors, photographers, and digital producers to present stories.
  • Balance same-day news with longer enterprise features, profiles, and investigations.
Who you are:
  • A hardworking, entrepreneurial team player.
  • Able to research and gather information from traditional and non-traditional sources.
  • An excellent communicator with well above average writing skills, capable of translating complex issues into clear, engaging language.
  • Capable of developing a strong network of sources.
  • Enthusiastic about experimenting with emerging storytelling platforms.
  • Interested in listening to and learning from readers.
Qualifications:
  • A journalism degree or significant media experience.
  • Experience in a daily news environment.
  • Bilingualism is an asset.
  • A valid G driver's license.

We thank all applicants for their interest; only those under consideration will be contacted. Candidates must be legally eligible to work in Canada. No phone calls or agencies, please.
