Description

Metroland is participating in Canada’s 'Local Journalism Initiative', aimed at promoting local journalism in underserved communities. The Almaguin News seeks an energetic reporter with a journalism degree or equivalent for a temporary full-time contract. During this period, you will produce 5-7 stories weekly for online publication at www.northbaynipissing.com, with stories also shared across Metroland's platforms and the LJI portal. The contract ends on September 30, 2025. While working virtually, you must be available for interviews and photography in the region. Compensation is provided through a government grant. The focus will be on community issues impacting the region and civic institutions.

Responsibilities

  1. Report on municipal issues with a keen interest.
  2. Take quality photographs for publication.
  3. Generate innovative and engaging story ideas.
  4. Be knowledgeable about Canadian Libel Law and Canadian Press Style.
  5. Consistently produce interesting, local news stories in traditional and innovative formats.
  6. Ensure high-quality, trustworthy journalism with strong reporting and research skills, including data analysis.
  7. Create engaging multimedia content.
  8. Travel within the community to cover events outside structured hours, including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications
