Job summary

Smile Digital Health in Toronto is seeking a Cloud Engineer (Automation) to design, build and operate production-grade automation for the Smile platform. You will own build and release engineering, manage pipelines, and provision environments across Azure services, aiming to reduce manual work and accelerate deployments.

This role requires 6+ years in cloud/DevOps with Terraform, Helm, Azure DevOps, GitOps, Kubernetes (AKS) and observability tooling.

Qualifications

6+ years in cloud/DevOps & platform engineering with 1–2+ years IaC & CI/CD on Azure.
Post-secondary degree in CS or Engineering or equivalent.
Terraform, Helm & Azure DevOps pipelines with GitOps delivery.
Strong Terraform module design, state management & refactoring.
Helm chart authoring with Kubernetes/AKS experience.
Observability as code with Azure Monitor, Grafana, Prometheus or OpenTelemetry.
Experience automating backup, restore & failover with measured RTO/RPO.
Proficiency in Python and Bash for maintainable tooling.

Responsibilities

Own build and release engineering; consolidate CI templates with change detection and quality gates.
Automate patching, certificate/secret rotation, environment scaling and reporting.
Implement GitOps-based CD with declarative deployments and drift rollback.
Automate end-to-end environments across Azure services and apps.
Automate business continuity and disaster recovery; validate backups and DR drills.
Maintain Terraform and Helm upgrade paths with reusable modules.
