Job summary

Smile Digital Health in Toronto is seeking a seasoned Cloud Engineer (Automation) to design, build, and operate production-grade automation across Azure. You will own build and release pipelines, manage IaC, and drive AI-enabled engineering initiatives to reduce manual work and cut costs.

You will collaborate with Platform, Solution, and Service Operations teams to implement GitOps, automate environments, and ensure disaster recovery readiness while maintaining security and cost controls.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of hands-on cloud engineering and DevOps experience, incl. 1–2+ years with IaC/CI/CD on Azure in production.
• Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
• Strong Terraform, Helm, Azure DevOps pipelines, and GitOps delivery experience.
• Expertise with Kubernetes and AKS, plus Azure services (Key Vault, Storage, Azure SQL, PostgreSQL).
• Proficient in Python and Bash, building maintainable tooling.
• Experience with FinOps and healthcare/regulatory environments an asset.
• Certifications: Terraform Associate; AZ-104, AZ-400, AZ-305; CK A/CKAD an asset.

Responsibilities

• Own build and release engineering by reviewing repositories and CI, consolidating pipelines with reusable templates.
• Automate patching, certificate/secret rotation, environment scaling, and recurring reports.
• Implement GitOps-based continuous delivery with automated reconciliation, drift detection and rollback.
• Automate end-to-end environments across every Azure service and application.
• Automate business continuity and disaster recovery with backup validation, restore and DR drills.
• Ensure Terraform configurations are maintained and upgrade-ready.
• Develop/maintain Build Agent images and guardrails like policy-as-code and security scanning.
• Apply AI-assisted engineering in daily workflows and share knowledge in the skill library.
• Collaborate with development and operations teams to close automation gaps and document solutions.
