The Remote Certified Primary Care Nurse practices autonomously, utilizing an extended scope of practice defined by regulatory guidance, including provincial legislation, BC College of Nurses and Midwives standards, Island Health policies, and individual nurse competencies.
This role involves working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing direct patient care and participating in health promotion activities across remote communities. The care approach must incorporate community and cultural values, focusing on disease prevention, chronic disease management, and acute care across the lifespan. Responsibilities include emergency assessment, treatment, palliation, health status assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation of interventions, and coordination of health services.
Travel may be required, and transportation arrangements must meet Island Health's operational needs, potentially involving the use of a personal vehicle.
