Job summary

VERSYS Verified Systems is seeking an experienced Commissioning Technician to lead start-up, testing, and commissioning of electrical and instrumentation systems in industrial environments in Canada. The role emphasizes safety, training, and hands-on problem‑solving with a team of commissioning experts.

You’ll perform electrical testing, troubleshooting, and start-up across low/medium voltage equipment, and contribute to ongoing improvements. ESOP participation and health benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• At least 10 years of commissioning experience.
• Journeyman Electrician certificate required.
• Ability to read and comprehend drawings/instructions.
• Experience with Hexagon Smart Completions Software.
• Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel).
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
• Canadian work eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Commissioning and start-up of equipment.
• Emergency troubleshooting of power distribution systems.
• Perform complex service upgrades and retrofits for low- and medium-voltage systems.
• Provide technical training and guidance to staff.
• Conduct electrical testing including Transformer Turns Ratio, power factor, and thermal scans.
• Operate safely around LV/MV substations and be aware of Arc Flash/ Shock Hazards.

Now, let’s dive deeper into your daily tasks as a superstar Commissioning Technician:

• Commissioning and start-up of equipment
• Perform emergency troubleshooting of power distribution systems
• Perform highly complex service upgrades, reconditioning, retrofits, etc. for its low-voltage power distribution products and systems
• Provide expert advice, training, and technical assistance to support staff and train newer employees. Experienced at performing mechanical maintenance, overhaul, and reassembly of medium and low voltage circuit breakers
• Experienced at utilizing electrical test sets to perform tests such as AC and DC High Potential testing, Transformer Turns Ratio testing, Power Factor testing, primary current injection, resistance testing, thermal scans on medium and low voltage electrical systems
• Familiar with the Arc Flash and Shock Hazards and able to work safely in low, medium, and high voltage substations

To truly master this role, you should bring the following skills and qualifications:

• A minimum of 10 years of commissioning experience
• Journeyman Electrician certificate is
• The ability to read and comprehend written materials, drawings, and instructions
• Experience with Hexagon Smart Completions Software
• Proficiency in preparing detailed technical reports
• Computer skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel)
• An unwavering commitment to maintaining confidentiality
• A sharp eye for detail
• A valid driver’s license
• Eligible to work in Canada
• A willingness to travel
• Relevant certifications in First Aid/CPR, H2S Alive, Defensive Driving, WHIMIS 2015, CSTS 2020, Fall Protection, and Aerial Lift / Elevated Work Platform
• Familiarity with electrical engineering, design, and construction processes are desirable
